A 14-year-old Buffalo boy could be blind in his right eye after a classmate fired a steel staple at him with a rubber-band sling-shot, tearing a half-inch gash into his eyeball.

As a teacher, I have to closely monitor the use of the stapler, scissors, and access to rubber bands. When I hand out those supplies I count them out and count them back in. I also have to do this with everything else I want to get back. Even so, I often take rubber bands that students have brought from home away from them, and I have had some classes in which I can not allow the students to use the stapler, pencil sharpener or hole-punch. Too bad a few students think so little of education that they intentionally wreak havoc and restrict the quality for everyone.

Sorry.
You've never noticed punny or ironic headlines before? It's a staple (I'm so sorry) when it comes to headline writing, particularly in the sports section. It happens far too often to be anything but intentional.

That's strange. A co-worker over here in Leeds had the same thing happen to his nephew last week. Poor kid lost vision in the eye.

You know, I get so irritated with the screwing around that goes on in schools. Kids just don't think!
When I was in high school, some kids used to play around with laser pointers. Those things blind people too! Why anyone thinks that's harmless fun is beyond me.
