A father, convinced he was the victim of a voodoo curse, drowned his two young children in the bathtub and then jumped to his death in front of a subway train.

Sadly, this kind of delusions and paranoia is not that uncommon. It does not always take these extreme forms, but it's probably the cause behind many of the wierd headlines we see.
It's a disease, and it needs to be treated by professionals before it gets this far.

Huh, I would expect this to be huge news on the scale of the Yates murders. Maybe it's not because he killed himself too?

I'm pretty pro-choice when it comes to suicide, but when you decide to take someone with you, especially your own children, you are lowered to beneath dogshit status in my book.

A cynic might suggest that it's considered more newsworthy when a woman kills her children because of cultural expectations re: women and motherhood.

Maybe it is more newsworthy to cover a mom hurting her kids than a dad, in this media climate it wouldn't surprise me. It's still sad though. Poor kids.

This case of a UK man who threw himself and his two children off a hotel balcony killing his son has certainly received lots of media coverage. The coverage I've seen or heard has either been pretty neutral or sympathetic towards the man involved, emphasising his family history of suicide and mental illness and how he will have to live with the guilt for the rest of his life. I think if it was a woman in the same position then the coverage would be far harsher on her.
