Police are searching for the driver of a sport utility vehicle who ran over two teenage girls who were laying in the middle of the road in an apparent game of "chicken" during a slumber party. http://www.thekansascitychannel.com/news/5087498/detail.html

How sad! What's the name of that movie that had college kids playing chicken by laying on the center lines of the road? I thought we were done hearing about kids imitating this movie...

It's a shame that kids can be this stupid. It really is a shame that they don't stop and think about the possible consequences of their actions. We've all done stupid things, but dang.

Was this at night? If not, how could the driver not know he had run over them, as was suggested in the article?

Sorry, but this has been bugging me. Shouldn't it be "run over"? If they "ran over", then wouldn't they be the ones in the car that ran someone over? If they were under the wheels of a car, then they were "run over".
Of course, now I've typed it a couple of times, "ran" doesn't even seem like a real word.

Yes, that's been bugging me too.

I've no idea what movie you're talking about here, but my friend and I used to lie in the middle of the road on a country road near where we lived just around a blind bend, and dare each other to stay there for longer each time (I know we were stupid, and we're lucky we didn't end up like the kids in the OP, neither of us can understand why we used to do it now). We'd definately never seen this film you're talking about so were not imitating it...
It is sad, and I feel sorry for the families of the kids involved, but also the driver of the car that hit them.
Scout.

"Two mentally challenged teenagers run over" would also be appropriate.

Someone that I went to high school also did the "lie down in the middle of the road" trick and he was hit and killed. I felt more sorry for the driver!

I think the idea for the movie came from something kids were already doing. I remember my mom warning me about not playing chicken in 1960's.

Seriously though, stupid! I have no problem with kids daring, or playing chicken...but what a stupid verion of the game. I feel sorry for the driver also, aswell as the girls and their parents, even though they acted like idiots.

Never heard of this one in Aussieland, although I suppose it might happen. Here, "chicken" is when two cars drive directly towards each other in the same lane, or in the centre of the road. First one to swerve is "chicken". Mind you, in my book, first one to swerve has half a brain. Someone who is too chicken to even play may actually have a brain in there somewhere.

Don't feel bad, me. (That is really weird to type...anyways...) My first thought of "chicken" is also two cars headed towards each other. Perhaps this is "chicken 2.0" or something.

My neice goes to school with these two girls. There was also a third girl who was darting in and out of the street, but she was not hit.
They give East Texas a bad name.
I feel stupider just because I know someone who knows them.
