Comment: As the proposed constitutional amendment to ban flag desecration recently passed, I felt that I needed to ask you about something I vaguely remember seeing on the internet years ago. I wish I could cite exactly where I saw it, but I honestly don't remember.
The rumor I saw purported that the primary reason for burning a US flag in the United States, was to protest laws that would ban flagburning.
I don't know any statistics to back it up, but I've got to admit that I would believe it. What do the statistics really show? (Assuming of course that we actually know the reason for someone burning the flag in protest).
