One day at the height of the Vietnam War, Lord Mountbatten agreed to appear on "The Tonight Show" - on one condition: that there be no questions about the war. The producers agreed. After a period of pleasant conversation, however, Johnny Carson suddenly asked: "If you were president of the United States, what would you do about Vietnam?" "I'd tell the British," Mountbatten drily replied, "to keep their noses out of it."
