LIBNOL for Laughing Inwardly But Not Out Loud, perhaps. [Roll Eyes] Cervus can use SOL -- Snorting Out Loud.

The simplest solution, though, is to replace all these crazy acronyms with WIWI!

Uh, sorry, SOL is already in use and means something rather different...
Just thought you'd like to know you made a SNAFU so people around here don't think you're FUBAR, 'cos you could wind up truly SOL if that happens.

I have to confess, I'm a repeat offender.

When chatting, I definately overuse the 'LOL'. Mainly its because i have a lot of friends online who consider themselves to be quite the comic genius' (or is it geni? I have no english skills) so I will add a few LOL's in order to satisfy the egos of my chat partners.

Apasrt from that, I use it as a lazy reply to a message, it may not be even slightly funny, maybe just below mildy amusing, but a LOL will allow the person I'm chatting to to know that I have received their message.

I don't know, i'm making an active attempt to NOT use it to much but its tough now.

I consider myself an intelligent, mature, well read, educated person of the female persuasion. I have a degree in English Literature.

I use it ALL the time. Emails, chatrooms, IMs, you name it. I incorporate it as necessary into the grammar of the sentence.

Do I use it when emailing my boss or my mother? No. I only use it among others who also use it. I tend to follow the culture in which I find myself. So I don't use it here.

To me, LOL really only means it made you smile, OR that you are laughing politely at something that you found funny, whether it was you or someone else who said it -- just like you do in real life, admit it. ROFL means it really did make you laugh.

Others I use are:
LMAO
ROFLMAO
BRB
WTF
BTW
WB
