"A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle."

I don't mean to be picky, but doesn't this end up calling all single women "fish"? [Frown]

I've always been bothered by the "fish without bicycle" analogy because not only does a fish not need a bicycle, it has no use whatsoever for one and indeed having to drag one around would be a severe encumbrance. The implication, therefore, is that a woman is necessarily better off without a man, as a fish is necessarily better off without a bicycle, which is not the case. Specific women are quite often better off with specific men.

As opposed to "there are plenty of fish in the sea"?

Anyway, no, I wouldn't consider metaphors and similies and other figures of speech as equal to namecalling.

Way I see it, any woman who believes that is one that any man would be DEFINITELY better off without.
