Personally, I get a kick out of the thought of parents giving this to their children only to be asked "Mommy, what's a virgin?"

Susie's Dad didn't desert her, he died, so wouldn't she already have a daddy up in heaven? My Grandpa died and I think he still watches over me. I don't think I'd take it very well if someone told me I could "Get a NEW grandpa." I'd be lie, "NFBSK you buddy, my Gramps was and is just fine."

I can't find the dog either, and the art is better. I don't think this is Chick, or he's changed his style.
The little girls look scary when they are mad.
There's more symbology in it too. Check out the double wide frame of the girls talking by the swing set. Susie's flower shirt looks like a glowing cross and her arms are out all Christlike. Also, note the mother bird feeding her young in the scean where Susie talks about getting a new father.
Wait a minute! Why show the baby birds, making us think it's spring, and then the falling leaf, implying autum?

Wait a second... The girl said that when the daddy left the family he sinned, and when he married another woman, then he really messed up. I thought in Chick's black and white world, all sins were equally wicked in the eyes of God... As I recall, the idea that some sins are not as bad as others is a Catholic idea. I guess Chick is going to hell now...

No, I have to agree with LadyMoose. She looks like the cartoon Punky Brewster.

Now that I googled her name, I would say yeah, she does look like Punky Brewster. But at the 11th row right, she reminds me of Angelica...all mean and all.

I am really, really frightened by the expression on the little girl's face in the frame # 22 when she says "When he married the other lady, he really messed up with God."
How does chick know whether or not the absent father had made peace with god over his second marriage. (and Romans 7-v3 only says that the woman is an adulteress if she is remarried whilst her husband is still alive, it says nothing about the man in the marriage. And if the husband has given the wife a "Get" (or "bill of Divorcement") I understood that they were free to remarry...?

Don't worry about it, Talk. It can't be scripturally sound, especially when she said Jesus did something no one else ever did--come back to life. What about Lazarus? Jesus is the one who told him to "come forth". What about Ezekiel (I think that's the one) that prayed over the young boy until he came back to life? Well, maybe he means come back to life without help .

I agree about there being tons of symbolism in this one. Note also the flower in the panel that quotes John 14:6. And, there's the sign with a parent and child on it in the 2nd panel. Also, I think that the playground itself is used to be thir church, note that the enter when Suzy starts telling Cathy about Christ, and they exit with a panel that's almost identical, save for the girl's positions after Cathy has been saved. They also end up under the same tree that Suzy was sitting under when Cathy told her about not having a daddy. Very interesting.
What's interesting, but I think is just a matter of style, rather than deliberate symbolism is the way their shadows are very solid and defined when they're "outside", but are fuzzy in the "church". That's probably because they're being cast on grass, but it's still something worth noting. There is definately a "nature = good, man-made = bad" vibe going on, though.
I reckon that that artwork sort of looks like if Uderzo did Manga.
Oh, and I can't find Fang, either.

These kids are terrifying. Every time they get upset, they look downright demonic. I also got a kick out of how little Cathy apparently knows what a virgin is, but not a sin. Sheesh.

I deleted this post because...well, because I was an idiot. In trying to find a picture of Fang I ended up in The Letter, then had to leave to do something else. When I came back to the computer I went on to other things and forgot about the Fang thing. Hours later I started thinking about it again and the image of the dog in The Letter came to mind and somehow I decided that this was the new Fang because, after all, Chick had changed his style, yadda, yadda, yadda.
In short, I went mildly insane and have decided it's best to readjust my medication.

No wild theories? I don't know about that :: nervous smile::
What about the child that has the opinion that the other child's father has "really messed up with God" (paraprased)
That's gotta be pretty close, surely? IMHO it could fit into a couple of categories, at least...
