We went over to Hub's brother's house today. Their neighbors moved out three weeks ago and abandoned all of their animals at the house. We don't have animal control and the police won't do anything, so the other neighbors have been feeding the critters, keeping an eye on them and trying to find them homes.
We found this little cutie tied out under the carport on a chain. She's been out there the whole entire three weeks. In the cold! My heart just broke for her, and we brought her home. She is the most lovable little doggie! She's already housetrained and does a few tricks. I'm just sick that someone left these poor animals to die at this house. I wanted to take all of them home, but that's how we've ended up with so many cats. I mean, look at this face. We haven't named her, and we're trying to figure out what kind of dog she is. She's got stubby legs and is long, we're leaning towards a corgi mix, but we're not sure. Poor thing!

I don't think it's corgi. Maybe dachshund mix?
Nothing screams "corgi" at me. Not the legs, not the body, not the ears. Not even the color.
She is very cute, though! And I agree, what a face!

AWWWWWWW!!!!!!! What a little cutie! I had to show the pics to my mom, and we both think dachshund/beagle as well.

That's definitely a beagle face. What an adorable baby.
I can't say Dachshund myself- most of them I've seen were darker in color (either dark brown or black and tan). My aunt's corgi (who is named... wait for it... "Corgi") is a big ball of hyper energy wrapped up in a stumpy-legged, no-tailed, giant-pointy-eared body. He's a darker color (almost like a German Shepherd's coloring) and has thick coarse hair.

She is a little cutie patootie! We decided on her name. She is now known as Dixie. (she narrowly escaped being named General Lee. Can you tell we're Dukes fans?)
The reason that we think corgi: my best friend has one, they're built exactly the same and their coloring is very similar. The fawn color with the white. The fur is different, she's got short hair, and is not especially furry around the butt, neck or feet like corgis. It could be dachsund, for all I really know. I really don't have a clue what kind of little mutt she is, but she's a keeper. We found out that she is totally housebroken (she woke us up while she was in her crate to go pee this morning) and she sniffed around the door to go out and poop. Yay! The two inside cats really don't know what to think. They spent all of last night sleeping on top of the TV and the entertainment center. They like to be far, far away from the invader.

I'd say a basset and retriever mix. Basset's come in Lemon and white, which is closer to her colour than a corgi's sable and white. Body shape and tail indicate basset, while the muzzle and the ear set look more retriever to me.

Ahhhhhh, what a little cutie pie! I can't believe how mean some people are. I'm glad she found a nice home with a family like you. Can I third the basset mix?

Looks like you got a little sweetie-peetie! Just how many animals did these people abandon, anyway?

They left 2 dogs and seven cats. My friend ended up taking one of the cats home. I don't know how someone can just abandon their animals like that. Grr.
It happens a lot around here though, because it's pretty rural. The cops won't do anything because if they did, they'd spend all of their time chasing down strays and abandoned critters. The voters in my county won't approve a sales tax or property tax to fund animal control, either. The animal shelter is overrun, and it costs 'too much' to give your animals up to the humane society. So a lot of people just dump them off after dark over the fence. Poor mites.

I am going to lay money down that she will be the best dog that you've ever had the pleasure of having as a member of your pack, period, and who cares what her lineage is, she is adorable! What a doll. Dixie is a good name for her. Posts: 1596 | From: Illinois | Registered: Sep 2002
