A mother faces child endangerment charges after a valet called police to report she left her 2-year-old son alone in her BMW while she shopped at Scottsdale Fashion Square.

You know, I love how she thinks she didn't do anything wrong, but she still told the valets not to tell anyone.

And don't you know that if asked what the most precious and important thing in the world to her was, she'd say it was her kid.
Her kid, in fact, is so important that perfect strangers, whatever other duties or responsibilities they may have, will (she expects) respond on command to attend to it and care for it.

I find it particularly strange that she brought her dog into the store and left her baby out in the car. Also, I know its totally wrong to assume things, but I would assume that if she can afford a BMW and a shopping trip at Neiman Marcus, she could afford a sitter for a few hours.

She knew it was against the law to leave her child unattended in a vehicle, she just did not care. If this ding dong had any common sence she'd have left the dog at home in its kennel and taken the kid in the store. (Stateing the obvious here) This woman has some messed up priorities.

Well, for heaven's sakes, the law doesn't apply to her. She drives a BMW, she shops at Nieman-Marcus. SHE doesn't have to obey the law. That's for the hoi-poloi like the valet who, after all, should have done as he was told and watched her child. Besides, she was probably shopping for the dog and had to have it with her to try on sweaters or collars or something.

Well, clearly she couldn't leave the dog with the child. But where were the goose and the corn?

I'm a little confused as to why she was allowed to carry her dog into a mall. Around here, there are health regulations against bringing animals into most stores unless they are card carrying seeing-eye dogs or leader dogs.
Sadly, my sister-in-law works with someone who would probably choose to save her dog above her child (who is now 3) if the situation ever came up. Sigh...

No, not really. Many stores, unless they sell food, allow dogs, at least around here. And, the portable dogs are especially common in high-class shopping malls.

I certainly would, which is why I don't want to ever have a child, much less be a primary caretaker for a child.
And where, exactly, was the father of this kid who allowed a person so obviously unconcerned with the kid to care for it?

It's possible he was unaware of her negligience.

That kind of behavior doesn't crop up overnight, nor is it an excuse (which is why women are often charged when their husbands/boyfriends abuse their children).

Course that doesn't change the fact that she should absolutly lose custody of the kid.
Two years old? My mom left me in the car to go into the grocery when I was four and older, but two?

To clarify, I'm not defending the father. I know nothing about the man. But: even assuming that she's been doing this sort of thing for a while, if he's not with the mother when she does it, and the child doesn't suffer a visible physical injury, and the mother doesn't get caught, how would the father know? A 2YO does not have the verbal skills to explain his mother's neglectful behavior.

Really? I'll have to take your word on that. I did at that age, but I was a weirdo. And I've not spent enough time around kids to know when they start talking.

I said "verbal skills" not "ability to talk." There's a difference between being able to talk and being able to explain to Daddy that Mommy left you alone in the car while she went shopping.
The child also would have to choose to tell Daddy that particular detail of his day. If Mommy does it all the time, how does the 2YO know it's wrong? I can tell you from experience that the facts a 2YO thinks it important to relate and the facts that a concerned parent wants/needs to know are not necessarily the same things. That's why nanny cameras and drop-in visits at childcare centers exist.

I've only seen dogs "shopping" in places like Home Depot and Petsmart - the big box places. Never in our mall. I've actually seen someone with a standard-sized poodle stopped and escorted out of the local bookstore. Perhaps it's just a little more strict around here.

Yeah. Colo. is sort of a dog's paradise. No fleas, few mosquitos, snow, lots of open space, and all kinds of stores that let them come with AND give them free cookies. Jakers LOVES our liquor store.

Well, those perfect strangers did care for the child. They called the proper authorities and reported her in spite of the fact that they are *only* valets. Dollars to doughnuts this woman calls up the store and demands to have the little people fired. I hope the store has enough backbone to tell her where to stick it. Furthermore, I hope the valets get a bonus of some sort or a very large tip from someone. It's pretty easy to do nothing instead of something.

Yeah, gotta agree with snopes in the entitlement factor. I have no sympathy for her, but lots for the kid. I do hope she loses custody or at least gets hit by the justice system in a place that hurts- like, say, her ego.

It's not her fault, she just dropped by Neiman-Marcus to buy a cookie for her kid and they tried to charge her $250 for the recipe.

Woman says mom left child at restaurant, too
A former restaurant worker in Scottsdale says the mother who left her toddler with a parking valet at Scottsdale Fashion Square frequently did similar things at Houston’s Restaurant in north Scottsdale.

I was in one of my favorite restaurants recently when a kid kept screaming and crying. I watched as the parents encouraged him to screech, then laugh as he did so. I noticed everyone around me was cringing every time the kid opened his mouth, but said nothing.
Eventually, I went over and asked the parents why they had to make him scream like that. They soon left.
The next time I went in, the waitress proudly showed me a new sign they had put up: "Unmannerly chldren will be given an expresso and free puppy."

Brilliant.
I have a sign above my work area with a happy Santa stating 'Unattended Children will be sold for elves'
My sister-in-law and husband no longer drop the nephews(5 and 9) off unannounced and vanish for hours (After stating they would only be gone for an hour tops)
I then gave the kids cocoa-coffee(A powdered mixture my sister makes containing instant coffee, cocoa, powdered sugar, chocolate shavings, nutmeg, and cinnamon) and had a contest on which one could down the most Pixie Stix. The winner getting a 1/2 lb bag of M&M's.
If my camera hadn't busted, I would have had scientific proof that kids can hover, and that my sister-in-law can swear like a sailor.

No, sweetie, just hold out until summer. Then leave the kid in the car for an afternoon and say you "forgot". He'll be out of your hair once and for all, and you'll be off the hook completely, with everyone sympathetically patting your arm and murmuring about how tragic it is and that you've been "punished enough".

Prior to that, Zakrzewski Johansson taught toddlers for less than a year at North Phoenix Montessori School in Cave Creek but had to be “let go,” said Cindy Lane, the school’s director.
Lane declined to give specifics about why Zakrzewski Johansson was no longer working at the school.
“The whole situation is very unfortunate,” said Lane, who was familiar with Monday’s incident. “I think her behavior speaks for itself.”

Ok, I'm confused. Where is this woman from that there is so little going on in the news that THREE articles are devoted to her, the 2nd and 3rd being devoted to digging up as much dirt on her as possible?

Because the child would drink the expresso, take the puppy, and the parents would have to deal with telling a kid hopped up on caffine that they have to give his/her puppy away.

We've discussed the cases you allude to before, and there is a huge difference between them and this woman's deliberate choice to leave her child in the car.
