Sorry if someone posted this elsewhere, but I thought it was pretty funny when I read it. I guess hiding things in the most obvious place works huh?

Some time ago, a $10-million grow-op was busted in Barrie, an hour outside of Toronto.
The grow-op was hidden inside an abandoned beer factory. Visible for miles around. And located right on a six-lane express highway, one of the busiest in the country.
Hiding in plain sight does work.

I saw parts of some show on TV Sunday night about an ex-special forces soldier that was working for the Miami (I think) PD. In the segment I saw, he was watching drug deals and radioing the details to police cars stationed nearby so they could stop the drivers after they left the spot. His hiding place? He was standing on top of a building that had a solid railing that was a little over waist high. He put an old milk crate on the railing between him and the dealers. That was the sum-total of his hiding. He said nobody ever looked up there and noticed him just standing there with binoculars and a radio. He said word would eventually get back to the neighborhood because someone's lawyer would find out how they got caught and he'd have to move somewhere else, but nobody ever spotted him when he did stuff like that. Hiding in plain sight.

Maybe that makes Miami Vice the TV show more realistic than I'd thought... watching that on DVD, I often wonder why the criminals don't notice the two guys sitting ten feet away from them in a Ferrari in an otherwise deserted and rather seedy area, who also drive off when they drive off and stay behind them until they get home.

This just recently happened here in Tallahassee. Well, within the past year. It seems there was a pot plant growing right behind one the main PD and they didn't notice until a picture showed up in High Times magazine. The pic included both the plant and the PD building. They were a little embarrassed about it.

Same old prank, different generation. I had friends who told me about planting seeds in police station planter boxes back in the late 60's and early 70's.
