Comment: I keep hearing "usually in tabloids" but sometimes from friends, the story of the "accidental sex change" where a person gets mixed up in the hospital with someone else and gets someone elses "srs" surgery.
Ive been fed this story a dozen times, but as someone who spent five years and $50.000 and a half dozen specialists on undergoing this procedure, I know how utterly IMPOSSIBLE this is!
Would you drive a nail through the heart of this stupid story once and for all?

No more than they can. I think a doctor can tell the differnece between someone who has been taking hormones and someone who has not.

Sigh...I used to fantasize that this story could happen to me when I was a teenager.

In the hospital I work in it's perfectly possible for patients to get mixed up (I call the staff "organizers from Hell" ), but that would be a little bit too disorganized.
Welcome to the boards, czolgolz! (I always wanted to say that! Were those good or bad fantasies that you used to have?)

Good fantasies...that I'd go in for minor surgery...a little mix up...and I'd come out as a girl! Not an uncommon fantasy for the sexually confused, as no explanations to friends or family would be neccessary.
As for the reality of the rumor: I doubt it. A sex change is not a common surgery, and I think the surgeon would have met with the patient before, and would probably realize if an unfamiliar person was on the the table.
There have been cases of doctors performing the wrong surgery, amputating the wrong limb, etc, but a sex change is such a specific, unusual surgery, that I doubt it could happen by accident...sigh
In the mean time, could someone fwd me a copy of this rumor? Thanks

I can not see something like this happening in the US. It takes several years to make all the changes, not a single trip to the operating table.
Could this happen in anouther contry?
My wife who is from Thailand claims that it is easy to have a sex change operation if you have the money. She does not know if it is one done in as on single operations or several. Also in Thailand many women are like my wife who has very small breasts.
