Okay,this game has got me completely stumped on how it works. I think I'm probably missing some sort of clue that can signal me in on how this game works...
or it really reads minds. Internet telepathy, ain't is amazing!

Let's represent your number symbolically with the variables x and y.
For example, if you picked 54, then x=5 and y=4.
Your original number is represented by the value (10x + y).
You subtract from your original number the total of its digits, or (x + y).
You end up with [(10x + y) - (x + y)] or 9x.
Therefore, no matter what two-digit number you start with, your end result will be a multiple of 9. Notice that all the multiples of 9 are represented with the same symbol in the "Mind Probe" table.

D'oh! That was certainly my first thought, but it still fooled me because they change the symbol each time...
