With Xmas music going all day at work, I've been annoyed by most of it, but I've noticed a few things.
First, I've only heard the Chaunnukah Song about 3 times so far. In the past two weeks.
Second, I hate how many covers there are of Rocking Around The Christmas Tree.
I liked the song for a week in 4th grade. I can't believe that any adults enjoy the song enough to cover it.
Third, there are lots of songs I hear on their supposed "Christmas" music that are not related.
Notably, Cannon in D, and My Favorite Things.

Any others?

"Baby, It's Cold Outside" is NOT a Christmas song, either, yet it gets played at Christmas time. If anything, it's a winter song.

Song for a Winter's night is always played at Christmas time but it's more of a winter song. Not that I'm complaining because I love that song.

Let it snow...I agree, but it's not a Christmas song. I also heard "We are the World" on the station supposedly playing all Christmas songs.

Jingle Bells is also not a Christmas song.

True, "Jingle Bells" was written as a Thanksgiving song. Really though, any winter song seems to be desginated a Christmas song. Winter Wonderland isn't a Christmas song, either.

I think some songs have just gotten thrown into the Christmas music category because they are wintery or people like them and there's no other time to really play them. Using the example of Winter Wonderland, when would a radio station play that if not in December and in a Christmas format?

With limited exceptions, I tend to really like music that's played around Christmas.

I like the Christmas music too, Lydia, as is evidenced in a couple other threads. But, just as summer songs are played all summer long (you can't get away from The Beach Boys on some radio stations between June and August), why can't winter songs be played all winter long?

I realize they aren't played all winter, and I'm not going to change it, but I really don't see why it was ever decided that a song about winter automatically means a Christmas song.

I have no problem with wintery music for Christmas music.

There was another one that was played a few days ago - Jewel's Hands, although they claimed that it was a "holiday version."

I guess the radio stations are to blame. Or the consumers. Maybe once Christmas is over, most consumers want to go back to listening to non-wintery music. Or maybe the music industry insists the radio stations go back to playing certain things.

One station I was listening to was "All Christmas Music, all through Christmas Day!"

And they played Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats". And they're not a country station.

I think a lot of it has to do with people's attitudes. There is oft repeated expression, "I love winter until x number of days after Christmas, then I want it warm again."

I suppose once the holiday season has passed, the novelty of winter has worn off and people are ready for it to be over.

On the Classical station, they've played Gunoud's "O Divine Redeemer", Franck's "Panis Angelicus", Barber's "Agnus Dei", Bach's "My Heart Ever Faithful", and Mozart's "Ave Verum". None of these are Christmas. The Gounod, Franck, and Bach are all general Christian, while the Barber and Mozart are for Passiontide.
