I will admit to wandering round Next on Saturday and thinking about buying some decorations, but that's because what I bought in my first year in my flat was dreadfully twee and I didn't get round to replacing it last year. This is due to the fact that we don't decorate until Christmas Eve in my family, so when it came round to me actually thinking about it all the decent stuff had gone. I still won't be putting things up until 24th December, but I can buy and store in the meantime. Plus I can't have too much tinsel and stuff around the place anyway because Otis tries to eat anything he can reach, and I will be spending Christmas Day (and possibly Boxing Day) at my Mum's so what's the point? Decorations will come down again on 6th January.

I have got some present buying out of the way though, and I've been sewing Christmas cards since about September.

My MIL starts playing Chrsitmas music the day after Thanksgiving. The Canadian Thanksgiving, that is. I like getting into the spirit of things as much asanyone else, but that is just waaay too early for me. I like to wait until maybe the second week in December. Although I do get an itch to play Christmas music when we get snow.

I'm not looking forward to the in-law struggle that seems to happen every other year. You'd think we were peeing on the Baby Jesus because we now refuse to kill ourselves on Christmas Day & be two places as close to at once as possible.
I just wish they wouldn't take it so damn personally. All it does is add to the stress level.

What am I in for this year? It our first Christmas with a kiddo. Will the grandparents turn greedy for kid time? My mom has already said "I want Christmas afternoon."

I haven't put decorations up (except for a wreath)since our youngest cat was a kitten. She's 7 now. Think a tree is safe? I think I'm still going to avoid doing much.

If I stick with my scroogey decorating plan At least Little-Aud will never have to complain about Christmas taking over her birthday (4 days later)

I'm trying to not think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving, with the exception of deciding whether or not I'm going to send out cards (some years I do, some I don't; it depends on how much time and money I have) and making a list if I am. I know my address book is seriously out of date so I want to have time to get all the right info.

I'm dreading the non-stop Christmas music. At my work they keep the radio on one of those stations from whenever they start playing it until after Christmas. By mid-December I'm ready to scream. Whenever someone tries to change the station to regular music, someone else always comes along and changes it back. I like Christmas music in small doses, but not for eight hours a day five days a week for a month or more.

When did Vetran's Day (or the day of that 3-day weekend) suddenly become the first official day of Christmas shopping season?

Yesterday I had to go to that evil entity that rhymes with "Ball-Mart". I figured with kids being off school and many of their parents being off work, yes it would be somewhat crowded. I get to the parking lot and it's damn near full. I hike into the store, and there is a line wrapped around the corner as you enter of people getting their kid's photos done for Christmas cards. I'm there to return a couple pairs of pants that didn't fit my kids and buy some bread and milk and such... there are people with full cartloads of wrapping paper, decorations, and gifts.

Just... arrgh! It's bad enough to deal with these crowds from Thanksgiving on, but I really want to be able to go buy my turkey and stuffing in peace next week. Le sigh.

I'm in a country that doesn't even celebrate Christmas, and there have been decorations and lights in the department stores for weeks already.

Bah, I'll be spending my Christmas Day at work, doing the end-of-year spring-clean of the school and temple. Roll on Dec 27th when the New Year holidays start!!

Oh I agree they should be done around this time frame- it was just that everyone decided to do them -that day- as if there was an unspoken rule that it was the first day of Christmas :S

I hate Christmas music with a passion. You could always be ironic and try and find a copy of The Vandals' Xmas album with such delights as "My First Christmas as a Woman" on.

However surely everything else is just sensible planning? I've got cards, wrapping paper, presents and an essay to send out to relatives as is customary each Christmas. I've even done my annual bit of goodwill and donated to charity (Save The Children's Middle East appeal, it seemed right somehow considering what a screwball 2006 was for the entire Middle East). I mostly did this because I had a day off and won't get another until December 18 and I'd rather be half way up a mountain than stuck in the pre-Christmas rush as everyone scrambles around to buy enough gift vouchers! [Razz]

Decorations come up in our house first available day after December 1.

I don't know if it's a guarantee, but I do know that the White House sends over a million Christmas cards out. Well, I guess "holiday cards" more recently [Smile]

I just wondered if maybe I could get it on that.

If I get stuck in the museum gift shop around Christmas time, I make a point of NOT playing Christmas music. I had a few people say something negative ("Why are you not playing holiday music?"), but I've had many more thank me for playing something different!

Besides, with my taste in music (as we choose our own playlists for the store), we'd end up with songs like "The Night Santa Went Crazy" and "Something Stuck Up In the Chimney". I don't think my boss would appreciate it. [Big Grin]

I loathe the Jared ones! If they start showing that commercial where the woman at the party cross examines every other woman about where she got her Christmas jewellry (and I guess every woman gets jewellry for Christmas) and then turns on her husband because he didn't go to Jareds I just may throw something at the tv [Mad]

We had this issue for years. We'd spend Christmas Eve with my in-laws, then they expected us at 1:00 on Christmas Day. I also had to visit my father and my mother the same day, plus fit in time for ourselves to celebrate. After I had my first son, I put my foot down. We spend all of Christmas Eve with them, there's no need to be there Christmas Day. That was 12 years ago. Do you believe they still ask me every year if we're coming for Christmas Day and act all disappointed when I say no?

We just spend Christmas day with my family. My fiance's mum gets invited, but she neer dos much for Christmas whereas my family does, my fiance has even had a turn at being santa, a right that used to be used for the newest father in the family, but because the youngest kiddly winks are now 10( except for the foster kids) it has been my grandad and my brother, and the newest partner in the family for the past few years. I love it as the younger kids have grown up they come to me and say as though it's a huge secret" you know ange, thats not really santa it's really Grandad/ uncle whoever/ random santa person that year". I always act so upset and pretend to cry and tell them no it can't be and how terrible it is to hear that. generally they tell me i'm silly and i tickle torture them.
I am currently downloading Il divo christmas songs and my tree goes up on the 27th November, with the whole ten decorations we have for it. I seriously need to go out and buy more.

I'm so excited for Christmas this year. Last year my daughter was 8 months old, so she had no idea what was going on. This year, though, she'll be 20 months and Christmas is totally going to blow her mind. I'm looking forward to it. Also, we bought our first house this past summer, so I'm really excited to decorate.

We put up the outdoor lights this weekend, partly because of the aforementioned excitement, partly because it's been unseasonably warm and we wanted to take advantage of that. Perching on top of a ladder in freezing temperatures doesn't appeal to me, so I'm glad we got that done early. In our defense, we aren't turning the lights on yet, and we weren't the first people on our street to put up lights.

My husband is even worse than I am - he wanted to start hauling out the Christmas decoration last weekend, and I'm making him wait until at least US thanksgiving next week!

I love Christmas, I really do.

But I'm tired of the complainers. The pCms who scream about "OMGJMJ IT IS TEH EVIL SECULARIST WAR TO SAY HAPPY HOLIDAYS". The wanna-be subversives wagging their tongues and fingers at me for celebrating an "over-commercialized" holiday. The smarter-than-thous who laugh at me for celebrating a holiday I supposedly shouldn't simply because I'm agnostic.

I just wanna celebrate my favorite holiday in peace, without having a million morons telling me how stupid I am for not conforming to their pseudo-non-conformist views.
