The Internet is rapidly changing the rules of advertising — but using naked people to sell clothes?

A French clothier is testing the limits of the maxim that sex sells with online commercials that use hard-core pornography to hawk $100 T-shirts.

I saw the ads, they're far more interesting than the clothes they're selling. Adobe is certainly showing promise with flash 8 though (software they used to create the ads).

It's an interesting concept, but only as a gimmick, me-thinks. I mean, if I'm going to watch some of their porn, it'll be the guy-on-guy, and I'm not interested in buying any suits and ties so....

I wonder how many are at that website purely for the free porn? Although, I'm sure they will see an increase in sales. Not because of their advertising, but because of the basically free advertising of media attention.

I'm sure *a lot* of people are there for the free porn. When I went to try and get a glimpse to see what the fuss was all about, it took about 5 minutes to get going, and even then it stopped about midway through every 30 seconds or so. This makes me think they're seeing heavy traffic, especially considering it's about 30 MB worth of flash vid and I'm on a fast cable connection.

And I think that's the whys and wherefores of it. Advertising's there to draw attention to the product or brand. And it's worked.

It is interesting to note, however, that the statement in the article about porn being the first in new trends does seem to be right. IIRC, porn was one of the first things to embrace first video, then DVD. Then DVD extras, such as multi-angle scenes. Then the internet, with webcam shows, PPV downloads, and so on.

I suppose, in part, that it's because porn is easy and cheap to produce (according to Louis Thereaux's The Call Of The Weird more than a million films a week are produced in LA alone), and it's got a guaranteed market, so it can afford to experement in ventures that might be too risky for the mainstream media.
