A vent cover on the side of a house looks like it might be a rude hand gesture. Then again, it might be a cactus, abstract art-style. It depends if you're the owner or a neighbor.

Well, it sure don't look like a cactus to me.
I want one!

Quite subtle too - all he's done is left one side off a traditional symmetrical design...
I wish I'd taken a picture of the Victorian windows trollface pointed out at Liverpool Street Station the other day. I'd not noticed them before but they were exactly the same shape as a thingy!

Thingy, that sounds a bit rude, sounds a bit like...
OK, I can't go anywhere with that. I still had to say it.
Is it these windows ? (Thrown up by a google image search) Because if it is I think you may be a bit over sensitive...

Hmm, I googled but couldn't find them. Those aren't the same windows but similar enough - the ones that we shared mature and sophisticated observations about only included the top part of those, the part in the arch above the yellow line. The part beneath was solid brick, which emphasised the effect. They were at the top of a wall running alongside one of the platforms.

Not pornographic, and not really that offensive. It's not like he's written "you're all a bunch of cnuts" on the side of his house, for goodness' sake. If it offends you that much, don't look at it.

So this Stan Torgersen is actually threatening to either damage the house (to get the vent cover down) or harm Darren Woods if the laws do not provide the means to get rid of it?
What is he going to do? Torch the house? Pummel Mr. Woods senseless? That guy sure has some issues in my eyes....

Boo NFBSKing hoo!
Based on how closly they've been stalking his construction project, I would imagine that everything he has done is legal and proper. So they are just pissed off that he is building a house on his own land that they used to look over to the view. I give very short shift to people that complain about loss of view.
PS. I like the street name.

He'll probably have to fix that if/when he decides to sell the home.

I don't know about that...it might actually fetch a premium.
I say more power to the guy. That was pretty inventive- and funny. I wonder what the vent installer thought... Posts: 687 | From: Grand Rapids, Michigan | Registered: Jul 2005

If I was buying the house I'd tell him to leave it. I think it's cool, but then again, I have a weird sense of humor.

quote: Worried that the excavation would disrupt his foundation, Stan Torgersen said he and his neighbors, the Eastons, asked the city to intervene. Riverton City then required the Woods to test the soil - something Darren Wood said had been done by the previous owner. And this new test would set back his building schedule four months and cost him an extra $3,000.
If they asked me to do spend 3 grand on something that had already been done and set the schedule back 4 months, I would view that as harrasment myself
quote: While the Torgersens and Eastons normally see the rooftops of the other houses along Reeves Lane below them, this house extends more than 5 feet above the line of the hill. "We used to have a view of the mountains," Janet Torgersen lamented. "He didn't have to take everyone's view." The Torgersens and Eastons said they contacted the city because they thought the home's height was against code.
What Genyus said. Boo NFBSKing hoo. Calling the city because he "took" your view qualifies as harrasement.

This made me think of the same thing as Richard. Not only did we have a giggle, but the two girls sitting next to us who had been pretending not to listen also had a giggle.
Should have made the most of it - I only clocked how attractive the one sitting next to Richard was once she'd got off the train.

Watch the news for vandalism at the new house... (predictive future news release):
quote:"We don't know how the fire got started. Before we knew it, the whole house was engulfed. I mean, we called the fire department as soon as the flames reached above his roof line," said Torgersen
