An 18-year-old woman who gave birth to a baby girl in the desert used nail clippers to cut her baby's umbilical cord before being rescued by U.S. Border Patrol agents.

The umbilical cord carries no nerves so there are no feelings at either end. Whatever tool is used to cut the cord is a non-issue as long as there isn't significant blood-loss at the cut.

I don't get how this is news. She gives birth in the desert, with only two other people, and the news point is the fact that nail clippers were used to cut the cord?

I agree with Artemis. Why is this news? I sure there has been many childern born in this world were nail clippers or other non-knife objects used to cut the cord. The only thing the child will care about later in life is wether it is a inny or outy.
