I just caught this clip on ThatVideoSite. I was wondering if this was staged or if Damon was realy that pissed off. I could see why but he should know that it is Jimmy Kimmel.

I was wondering the same thing... if it's not staged, it is a really mean thing to do on Kimmel's part.

If a guest takes the time to be on the show, and you just have him there o unwittingly be part of a joke... Damon's reaction wouldn't have me surprised in that case.

It was a joke. I heard on the radio that Kimmel had joked about it being too late for Damon to appear on several shows, even though Damon wasn't scheduled. Bringing Damon on to go ballistic must have been the payoff.

While I'm 99% sure this was a gag, I have to admit-- Kimmel's a good actor. The befuddled and awkward look on his face during the credits when Damon is ranting is very convincing.

I'm pretty sure it's a joke too. If Jimmy had really run out of time as many times as the clip sequence indicated, why would Matt keep agreeing to be on the show? Matt Damon also has a decent sense of humor, doesn't really have a problem with poking fun at himself (see Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back)

Matt Damon got all red in the face, too, excellent acting there on his part. He looked really pissed!

It starts out with clips of Jimmy Kimmel closing out many shows with "Apologies to Matt Damon for not having him on, because we ran out of time."

Then it cuts to Kimmel at his desk, going through Damon's entire filmography, as well as the fact that he and his wife (who he met in Miami while filming 2002's Stuck on you) just had a new baby, then introducing Matt Damon.

Damon comes out and takes a seat, and Kimmel says, "I'm sorry, Matt, but we've run out of time. Can you come back tomorrow?" Damon tells him to NFBSK himself.

It then cuts to the end credits being run while Damon goes off on a vulgarity-laden tirade on Kimmel, ending with Damon storming off the set.

Thanks Angl, sounds like it was a joke to me, with all that set up. Wish my stupid computer would play it.

It was all a setup.

In fact I believe it aired in prime time instead of Kimel's usual Midnight (eastern time) slot.

Maybe the other times he wasn't really booked, but then he was P.O.ed this time because he really showed up?

Ah, probably not, but man, that acting is good! It's hard not to believe it!

The extensive listing of movies before his introduction made it seem very joke-y, as did the fact that the audience continued to cheer and applaud when Matt was going off on Jimmy. I would think that if such a thing were to really happen and the audience wasn't aware it was a joke there would be stunned silence more than cheers and applause.

Well, yeah, but usually on TV shows and things like that I wouldn't expect them to really try. Getting his face all red and everything. Jimmy Kimmel's reaction looks real, too.

It's no question a joke. It's been a long running gag that Kimmel apologizes to Matt Damon for running out of time at the end of his shows, even though he was never supposed to be on. I guess they decided to take the joke to the next level. Also notice, during Jimmy's lengthy intro of Matt, they cut to Ben Stiller in the audience, checking his watching, looking mad.

Kimmel knows how to take a joke too far. Remember when he was supposedly "bitten" by a snake and rushed to the hospital during the show, only to go to the set of "Grey's Anatomy" and interview cast members there from his hospital bed?

I agree it's a setup. If the guest were due to appear 60 seconds before the end of the show, the host would not be doing the lengthy intro. Despite the 'live' concept, these things are well planned (mostly).

Bloody funny. [Big Grin]

Well acording to Bill Simmons, a former writer for the show and good friends with Jimmy, the reaction is 100% real. This is what he wrote during an ESPN chat: "Jimmy will get mad at me for this, but screw it - Damon was supposed to be the last act of the show, and they screwed up the time and only gave him like 45 seconds, he didn't even get a chance to show a clip from his movie. So Damon totally flipped out, it was like the scene from Good Will Hunting when he flips out on the math professor. I can't believe nobody made a bigger deal about it. Everyone thought it was a setup but it actually happened, Jimmy was pretty shaken afterwards."

And, of course, he wouldn't be in on the joke and perpetuating this rumor...

Anyone else thinking of that Monty Python episode that has Ringo Starr and Lulu "guest appearing", but the show runs out of time, so Ringo and Lulu get p.o.'ed and start yelling, walking off stage, then coming back to beat up whoever was doing the interview (I think it was Eric Idle, but don't quote me on that)?

Holy crap. That was very convincing if not real.
It's like one of those awkward moments where a couple starts fighting right in front of everyone, and you don't know if someone is going to start throwing punches...

I love that the crowd is still cheering and clapping the whole time. Not fans of Damon, I guess?

Bill was obviously joking.

It's not even possible for them to "screw up the time and only gave him like 45 seconds". Rather big stars like Matt Damon do not go from a ~8 minute segment to getting squeezed into the last minute of a talk show and not even get to promote their movie.

Jimmy's *EXTREMELY* LONG AND HUMOROUS INTRODUCTION of Matt made it 100% clear that it was a bit. As a loyal viewer of Jimmy's show, I was virtually certain that they were going to do some sort of bit with Matt long before they did it. Before EVERY commercial break, Jimmy said something like "coming up after the break, Matt Damon", yet he didn't actually come out until the credits were about to roll. Jimmy never "teases" his audience like that, unless it's a bit.
