Super Castlevania 4. No questions asked - it's divine. And Actraiser.

Hmm, well off the top of my head, Super Metroid is a really good game. The music and graphics give it an almost creepy atmosphere - it's great.

And I'm not sure if it was released in the UK, but if you can get your hands on it, there's a great little SNES game called "Plok" that sadly got overlooked by many (the music in it is very impressive!). Unfortunately, it's a bit on the difficult side, but it's a fun game.

Earthbound.

My favorite game, ever. Fun, goofy, cute, and unusual. (Example--the main character has to call his Mom periodically or he starts to get homesick.)

Oh, and if you like classics...
Chrono Trigger.

Harrumph. Earthbound isn't available in the UK (at least not on eBay). Castlevania is far too expensive, and Chrono Trigger is even worse (£58 for a US version).

Plok does look interesting, but none of the auctions end for several days. I'll see how it goes.

Duuude, where did you find a working SNES? I have one from my childhood, with A Link to the Past for it (BEST. GAME. EVER. PERIOD.) But it's dead. Please bless me with your finding-working-SNESes-knowledge.

I have mine from my childhood also. I'm just lucky it still works (I also have a working Sega MasterSystem II for the 8 bit goodness). eBay seems to have a fair few working consoles, tthat would be where I'd start looking.

I'll agree with you on Zelda as well.

Megaman X games, think there's 3 on snes, and earthbound wasn't released in europe, so it might be hard to find. Worth it if you can though, definitely. I started learning Japanese just to play part 1 (which wasn't released in english) til someone made an english patch on an emulator (I do own a version of the original game, in Jamanese, so I don't think it's breaking the law!) and I might get the japanese version of part 3 if it won't be released in english.

I <3 my earthbound!

EVO: The Search for Eden is a cute, fun, unusual sidescroller action RPG-esque game. You play a critter chosen by the Spirit of the Earth to protect the correct path of life, and evolve in each stage to do it. At some places, you even have to make a choice: stay as a reptile, or evolve to a mammal? OR maybe, if you can find the path, become a bird?

Check into your local used game shops. They usually have them there. If you want an original NES be prepared to fork over some dough they are rapidly becoming collecters items.

If you like casino games, get Vegas Stakes. It has slots, roulette, poker, craps, and I think another game (ETA: blackjack) and you try to work your way up to $100,000 and then $10 million. The fun part of the game is that people come up to you and ask you stuff (Do you want to buy this watch? Can you take me to the ER? Do you remember me? etc) and sometimes you get money and sometimes you lose money from them. It's fun.

World Heroes 2 - crazy beat 'em up featuring characters such as Joan of Arc and Rasputin.

Zombies Ate My Neighbours - very addictive shoot-em-up.

Stunt Race FX - excellent racer for the time, but a bit dated now.

Legend of the Mystical Ninja - one of the best of the Goemon games.

Any of the Final Fight games. (1 and 2 should be cheap.)

F-Zero (racing)
Any of the Top Gear racing games
Contra III

And you may want to pick up a Game Genie.

I still have my SNES, with about 50 games. The ones that I listed are my favorites that you don't already have.

I was always a fan of the Delphine Software/Interplay games:

Out of this World
Flashback
Blackthorne

They're an odd mix of action/adventure with top of the line animation (for the day).

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was always my favorite. I also really liked The Addams Family. I think it's time to hook up my old SNES.

Uniracers - an peculiar side scrolling race game. It's really the only reason I still hook up my SNES and is still a blast at low key drinking parties.

I second (or third) MegaMan X games and Pilotwings. Except for the first one, the Megaman games are a little rare, but Pilotwings flooded the market and should be readily available.

Ooh ooh, Earthworm Jim! A cult favorite.

If you like reeeally in-depth strategy games Koei (Makers of Nobunagas Ambition, Romance of Three Kingdoms, and Genghis Kahn for the NES) released Genghis Khan II: Clan of the Gray Wolf for the SNES. Just make sure you get ahold of the game manual as well (same for any Koei game for any system).

I know that there are a number of Fire Emblem games for the SNES. I never played those, but I love the ones on GBA.

U.N. Squadron and Darius Twin are two good shooter, and Teenage Mutant Nina Turtles is about the only "street brawling" game I can stand. And, yeah, the Megaman X games are great.
