This sort of reminds me of a former Austrian Alpine skier who was a world champion women's downhill skier. In 1967 they found out that she really was a he. His genitalia were deformed and when he was born his parents thought he was a girl and raised him accordingly. Until they tested him at age 19 in preparation for the Winter Olympics he thought he was a woman.
