I went to Target at 5:30 this morning expecting to see maybe 10-15 people but there were 50 already! Luckily the store received 111 so I was all set. At around 7am they handed out tickets and by 7:30 they were already sold out. When the store opened at 8 it was pretty orderly and calm. A little slow, but that was fine. And aside from one clueless guy a few people behind who was asking everyone in line the stupidest questions to anyone who would listen, everyone was cool.
I've been playing Zelda all day and it's pretty cool swinging the controller for the sword. I also got Call of Duty 3 but that was a little more difficult to get the hang of.
The thing I don't get is there has been little to no mention of the Wii in the news. It's all PS3 this and PS3 that.
Anyone else have any Wii stories?

I got the email from Amazon.com a week or so ago saying "The Nintendo Wii will be available for purchase on Amazon.com on 11/19, Sunday morning (PST)." Which would imply to me (and others) knowing both general console releases, and seeing the actual need to specify a time zone, that it should be up at midnight PST because it'd, y'know, make sense. Which would be 3am my time. Fair enough.
Ended up spending the night refreshing Amazon.com every few seconds-to-few minutes, finally crashed around 7:30am or so and slept poorly, waking up occasionally and checking just because I was restless, and sleep poorly at the best of times. Found out later that they apparently went up for sale finally around 11am and were snapped up within a couple minutes.
I'm especially annoyed though because of the way Amazon treated the customers. Despite the fact that these were their loyal customers, trusting the store and signing up for notification, the store felt the need to play coy and not give any specific info (and I'd go so far as to say even imply a time that wasn't met).
But even worse, and what really pushes this to just a bad experience in my book, is the fact that they couldn't even come out and give anyone a straight answer. Many many people over the course of the night called customer service for some sort of reply, and no one got told a correct, straight answer. They got told anything from "they should be up any minute now, keep refreshing!" to "they'll be up at sometime during the day" (gee, thanks for the narrowing down there, pal" to "they're in price negotiations with Nintendo, and can't put them up yet" to "we don't know yet how many we have, so we don't know how many we can sell!" I mean, the hell? Don't jerk around the people paying you money, or at least waiting eagerly to give you 250 bucks +shipping!
So now I am Wii-less (go ahead, make the jokes, I'm female so it won't hurt me ). And I have NO clue how/when I'll be able to get one, now. As I mentioned in my Livejournal, it's not so much that I just *have* to have one the very minute one comes out. I mean, it'd be nice yes, but I do still have FFXII to keep me company at least. But since I didn't get one at the time I *knew* they'd be available (albeit in low supply), now I get to join a huge crap shoot over the next weeks or months, trying to just manage to hit *just* the right time that they go up for sale online somewhere, or hit the store shelves, or whatever.
*fume*

The guy at our local independent gaming store said they expect to get more in about a week. I didn't call today figuring they had enough to do today, but I'm hoping they'll take preorders on the new shipment(s). Just hope they don't get their order bumped to that more can be sent to the big box stores.

I want to get one, but sadly, I'm going to be moving in a few weeks, and neither can afford one, nor am I guaranteed to have an internet connection to access any of the cool features. I'm sticking with my cube.

Got one. I spent 13 hours at a Wal-Mart in my hometown. it was the only place that didn't get pounded. I actually spent one hour of that eating lunch at Friendlys because I showed up at 11AM and there was only one guy there. They did sell out, but it took awhile. Most of the people were cool, but damn I hate people who chain smoke in small crowds.
Still, it was worth it for Zelda!

I arrived at Best Buy at 9 AM saturday--I was the very first person. After spending 24 hours there, sleeping on concrete in the night for maybe 3 or 4 hours: I woke up, waited some more, and was the first person there to receive the Wii, Zelda: Twilight Princess, and my way home. Totally worth it.
INTERESTING AND RELATED FACTS: I got the most sleep out of everyone there, despite the fact they all had sleeping bags and one a tent
I got a free Wii shirt for being the first person in line, and the privelage of hearing every possible Wii related joke.
Sadly, while I was asleep, I apparantly missed some of the most interesting events of the camp. One involving a cop; which I woke up as that was winding down. And apparantly laster tag and something about Wii Drive by's from the people who caught the Walmart midnight release
I vaguely remember hearing most of the things I missed while I was sleeping
There were radio's, TV's, and lots of conversation going on all night and day
There were 0 deaths involved
I am tired, but happy.

We got our a bit after midnight at the local GameStop (preordered). While SO was in line she heard about the long line at the nearby Best Buy so we decided to drive over there. I could not believe the number of people camped out. We were going to do a "drive by", beeping the horn and holding up the Wii, but there was a police officer patrolling the area and we didn't want to incite anything.
We got Excite Truck and Zelda (as well as Wii Sports, but that came with it).
The reason there were fewer problems with this release is that many more units shipped and the system is a lot less money. People are still selling it on eBay but I think more people were buying Wii to keep for themselves (or for gifts) than to resell.
My SO, the bigger gamer, has already made Mii's (little avitar people) of everyone in the house...including the dog. Yes, he's a small person.

Didn't get it this weekend, but it hopefully won't be too long until we do.
When we do get it, the first game on our list is definitely Zelda. Also, if the price difference isn't too much, I'll probably return my PS2 version of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and buy the Wii version.

Wow, I feel like such a slacker. My boyfriend, who had one preordered, is negative in his bank account right now. He sold me his preorder, so he got back the $90 that he'd put down. Bu the time he can afford a wii, they'll be out already. I've been playing Twilight Princess since Sunday.

I wonder if my sister's friend who got a pre-order for Twilight Princess but not for the Wii actually managed to get his hands on a console.
And I wonder if he feels he can trust my sister to give it back if she sees it? Maybe that's why he and her friends chipped in to buy her a DS Lite for her birthday...

I had a friend who got it on Sunday. I won't be getting one: no money, no TV, no time. But "Wii" all went over and had a little party at his place. Man, my arm is just killing me. That's something no-one has mentioned yet, is that all the moving you do with the remote leads to soreness in your muscles. This is honestly the first time I've had to warm up to play a video game

So what are the reviews on the motion controller? My SO is convinced that it's not going to work well and is going to suck, what's the verdict from users?

I don't have any idea where you're looking, but thats one thing you can hear anywhere, mostly as speculation from people who haven't played it much. People saying "Oh no, it'll make me too tired to play for long!"
People who have had a significant chance to play with it generally dispel this myth by pointing out that its highly sensitive and proportional and you can get the same effect with small wrist motions if you want. You can make the big arm motions if you want, and in fact its often more fun that way, but you don't have to move around and tire yourself out if you choose not to. You don't have to start going to the gym to be good at the Wii, another option is to get a little more experience in with the controller and experiment with more refined movement. Of course in the heat of the game its easy to get sucked into it and start moving around just for the joy of it.

It works very well, but in some living rooms you need to configure it a bit to avoid infrared reflections. This can happen from glass surfaces between the controller and sensor. There is an infrared tuning map that you can use to troubleshoot this, although not everyone is going to be aware of that on day one when they first open the box, so it might be a little flaky until they figure it out. Also, if people are expecting it to behave exactly like a light gun they may be clumsy with it initially. It can serve the same purpose, but its more about relative position than absolute position. You'll get used to it soon as long as you don't keep expecting it to behave that way.
Its a very intuitive control. Most of the naysayers just suffer from a lack of imagination and can't picture how it could work apart from lame distant predecessors like eye toy and power glove. Many have been converted once they actually got to try it, though of course some people will never back down from an opinion like that once they've committed to it.

No issues really. The biggest thing is where the sensor at the TV has to go. Currently ours is too low since we have a cable box on top of the tv. My SO complains but I haven't had issues (but I also sit further back from it). It seems much more responsive than a lot of other wireless controllers I have dealt with.
