But isn't a part their profession there ability to get men to pay to look at their bodies? I completely agree with you on the power dynamics involved and would never find it surprising that men are not paying for the "hotties" however I don't fault someone who doesn't know finding that to be an interesting observation.

quote: Many strip clubs aren't about seeing hot naked women, despite what the ads would make you believe. They're about power differentials between the stripper and the guy with the cash.
And in the direct dancer/client relationship, it's the dancer who has all the power and control.
Did you just miss the article I posted about the guy at his bachelor party biting the stripper's vulva? Or are you suggesting that she asked for it?

I didn't tell him what he could and could not say. I responded to a comment he made. I didn't attack him, I made a throwaway response to a throwaway comment he made about a documentary, then proceeded to post three films that addressed the topic at hand. It was the rest that thought it necessary to continue the tangent. And please note, I already posted the desire to withdraw.

You're seriously presenting a survey of 18 women from the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area as representative of strip clubs across the nation? The sample size is way too small even for the metro area.
And "abuse" is just that...abuse, and outside the normal client/dancer relationship. The dancer decides who to dance for, the details of her performance and her actions. The men want from her what they cannot get. The clients respond to the dancer, not the other way around.

I also remember one about a group of mentally retarded people putting together a theatrical version of The Wizard of Oz. I forget the name but it was nice.
And although this is more or a tv series, it is in documentary format. The episode of Investigative Reports on A&E (or maybe City Confidential, I get them mixed up) about the group of Florida kids who killed their friend because he was supposedly a bully really got to me. It just reminded me of some of the idiots I used to know when I was that age and could see them doing the same crap. The movie based on the case was pretty good too.

Sound & Fury. Great documentary on the issues surrounding the cochlear implant in the deaf & hearing communities. The end makes me tear up just thinking about it.

The Filth and the Fury, about the Sex Pistols. Capturing the Friedmans. Born Into Brothels, about kids in the slums of India learning photography.
And more, that I need to think of.

I saw [url=http://www3.ifctv.com/thisfilm/about.php]This film Is Not Yet Rated a few weeks ago, and found it pretty entertaining and informative, though I knew going into it I would pretty much agree with most of it already. But the movie did try to make some tangential points that I don't really agree with, and which I thought didn't serve the main thesis very well at all. Still, I highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't know much about the ratings system, so they can get a better idea of just how insane the system really is.

The Fog of War – Errol Morris’ in-depth interview with Robert S. McNamara.
From Jesus to Christ - Frontline's brilliant look into the historical life of Jesus, how Christianity formed in the first two centuries, and how the religion became the stamp of Rome. Full of interviews with some of the most respected Biblical scholars in our present.
Really, though, I can't recall watching a Frontline documentary that I didn't find fascinating. (Their piece on the Iraqi Insurgency was phenomenal)
Devil's Playground - Lucy Walker's examination of the Amish rite of passage: Rumspringa.

There were parts of if that were interesting and thought provoking. However, it wasn't a very smooth, well put together documentary. The story and point it was trying to make was often muddled and less effective than it could have been.
