I put Chicago but I'd probably only be able to come if it was somewhere in California. I could come to one in Chicago if it coincided with a time I wanted to visit family there.

I'll go anywhere, but I'm also only willing to pay about $250. So that means it either has to be close to Toronto, or it has to cost next to nothing to stay and eat there.

I answered Las Vegas, $100, September, and Depends when and where.
As I mentioned in the first thread, I have a 4-week trip in May, which will mean that I will be broke and have no vacation time left. Vegas' cheap air fare would be the one thing that could compell me to make a non-driving distance trip. Also, September would give me a chance to save some money and store up a bit of vacation time at work.
I picked the money amount because it was the middle choice, I guess I'd actually like to spend less, but I definitely wouldn't spend more.
I chose "I'd have to see the location and time first" because I think this sounds like a really fun thing, so if I can somehow swing it, I'll be there. Unfortunately for me, if it's in May/June or in a much more expensive location it would be out of the question.
ETChange money - in retrospect, it's probably more realistic.

For those of you voting over 200.00 for the convention, notice that it said "for the convention portion only." I'm thinking she means it to be the cost for the convention without the hotel or air. That would cover the costs of meeting space and speakers plus possibly a banquet. But not the cost for your entire trip. Of course if I'm wrong I'm sure Rhi will correct me.

I'm willing to go anytime - in Vegas. It's about a 4 1/2 hour drive for me, and mom lives there so my room is free, plus I'll get to visit with her some.

Yep. Just the convention portion of things - meeting space, speakers, and hopefully a banquet depending on the cost of the other two. Of course a lot of things depend on how many people we have attending. We might be able to get a deal if we book rooms in a block and we might be able to block rooms at a couple of price points. Of course we would try to keep the price as reasonable as possible, but it is easier if we know what is the max people are wanting to spend. So we don't book a meeting room at the Bellagio ferinstance.

I'm spoiled by science fiction conventions; only the really big ones (Worldcon, etc) charge more than $100. I was amazed the first time I looked into attending a different kind of convention and saw the multi-hundred-dollar memebership fees.
However, as meeting new people in the flesh is around my 7,842nd favorite thing to do, I'm not really that likely to attend. (Also, budget is nonexistent and time off work difficult to obtain.) I might be conned into carpooling as far as Las Vegas with Silas, but not much further. (And come to think of it, I think he refuses to visit Las Vegas on principle, so maybe you'd better have it someplace else, because he'd be a lot more likely to go than I would...)
Actually, though, I have to wonder what exactly such a convention would consist of. What kind of speakers, what sort of programming? I'd put some thought into that before thinking about booking anyplace.

If it's in Chicago, it's at least within driving distance of London, and I'm sure a car pool could be formed with some T dot snopesters.
However, it all depends on how flush I am with cash at that point in time.

I'd love to attend a convention, but since we live in Germany, it could be a bit of a challenge. Since we have family in Dallas, anything close (relatively speaking) would be best for us. And in the summer. School starts in late August, so anything before that (but after May) could be workable.
Hmm, tough to please, ain't I?

That doesn't matter so much as we're trying to get an idea of how many people will attend, not how many people will not attend. I think people not planning to attend who are voting skew all the other answers since when and where you would prefer to attend is meaningless if you don't plan to be there regardless of the time and location.

If it is in Vegas, I might be able to see my Mom at the same time. She lives an hour away and loves to go to Vegas. Now if I could win some air fare, the hotel probably wouldn't be too bad. My husband says he has already been to Vegas and didn't lose anything there, so I would be flying solo. I also love the nickel slots....

What if meals on Day 2 (Saturday most likely) were included in the cost of the convention? I started looking at some options for meeting space and most of them offer different levels of food and beverage service. Is that something we are interested in?

For a snopes convention, I might even be able to get over my poisonous feelings toward L.V.
(I've been there twice. Both times, I did exactly one thing. The second time, however, I actually used a bathroom.)

I have to admit, my interest in this event was solely when we were considering WDW, and it wasn't a 'convention.' I go to enough 'conventions' in various cities around the US and Canada - for this I just wanted to go have mindless fun with my snopes friends.

Seconded. A road trip with some of the fine folks from the Toronto snopes get-together the other week sounds like fun. And I've never been to Chicago and I'd love to go.
That said, truth be told I'm not sure if I'll even be living here next year, so it may be moot anyway.

I suppose I should have probably added that as well. With any luck, I'll be planning a move to attend law school in New Brunswick. Though at this point that's more wishing than anything as I haven't written the LSAT yet.

Finances are always shaky, but this sounds like fun. If anybody is interested, I could, as bthyb suggested, maybe demonstrate a little quilting-type stuff. Depending on whether or not I can take my tools on the plane, and if I can get tranquilizers for the flight. I must confess I'm afraid to fly. But for this, I would consider.
I would love to have snopes and Barbara speak, too.
(If nobody is really into quilting, that's ok too. But I taught quilting for continuing ed for a couple of semesters.)
ET fix my intentions, so as not to insult snopes or Barbara.

I probably wouldn't come, due to distance, [and my fear of getting lost on the way ] and I picked a price in NZ$, so I think I shoulda just left the poll alone... I would be very interested in seeing / downloading /buying a DVD of some of SLC: the gathering.
And, just cos I'm not there this year....

I'm saying somewhere else, because it would be nice to have minimal flight switching. The closer it is to an international airport hub, the better it would be for any Snopesters coming from abroad.
And LV just doesn't appeal to me, similarly to how WDW doesn't appeal to BeachLife

Well the polls are closed and Las Vegas edged out Chicago, but it was pretty close. June got the most votes, and we'll be keeping the price down as much as possible. Probably by having some events be optional.
Ok so volunteers, please check your PM Boxes!
Anyone else with any suggestions for speakers, events, or activities please let me know either by PM or over in the SLC:The Gathering Thread
