I'm such a fair-weather fan. But I don't care. GO CARDS!

That's probably because we know that all we were fighting for is the right to lose to the Tigers.

Yeah as a Cards fan I don't hold out much hope for the WS either.
On the other hand don't forget the last weekend of the season when the Tigers choked royally (pun intended) getting swept by KC to lose the division so anything could happen.

I literally cried like a baby after we lost that game. I thought towards the end after Chavez's terrific catch we had it. We lost by an asshair, it was so depressing.
I doubt I'll watch much of the WS, but all I have to say is, I hope the Tigers sweep the Cards, and by a lot too.

But doesn't that just make the Mets look even worse?
And slight hijack and as a fan*, I get to make this joke...
What do a Mother Bear on birth control and the World Series have in common? . . . . . . . . . .that's right...no cubs.
*Cubs fan that is, didn't want to ruin the joke.
Edit...needed the punch line.

Well, let's see. A Cardinals team that backed into the postseason beat a Mets team that lost two of its three best starting pitchers, and now faces a Detroit team that mowed down two very good teams in impressive fashion. Add in Tony La Russa, who has a history of managing teams that don't deliver in the World Series, and Jim Leyland, who has exactly the opposite history, and the outcome seems clear.
This year, though, the clear outcome doesn't seem to happen - the Twins were supposed to dominate the A's, the Yankees were supposed to dominate the Tigers, and the Mets were supposed to dominate everybody.

But that makes no sense. A mother bear would have cubs.

Both managers have exactly one World Series titles to their credit. How are those histories opposites?

True. But how many times has each managed in the World Series?
Plus, don't forget that two of La Russa's three losses - in '88 and '90 - came with very powerful teams that had 104 and 103 regular season wins, respectively.

Leyland has been to -- and won -- one World Series, but how does that make him a batter manager? Don't forget, he had those strong Pirates teams in the early '90s who choked in three straight NL championship seriers.
His overall record as a manager is below .500.
I'm not denying that LaRussa has a record of under-achieving teams in the post season. But that doesn't make Leyland more accomplished.

Where did I say that Leyland is a better manager than La Russa? I think that La Russa is the better manager. However, La Russa is batting .250 in the World Series, while Leyland is batting 1.000.
Put another way, in his one appearance, Leyland did what he was supposed to do. At least twice, La Russa's teams have grossly underachieved in the World Series.

Awww crap, I screwed up a typed joke...how bad can it get, it was supposed to say a mother bear on birth control . Hangs head in shame.

Because the Mets lost to a team that then got swept in the world series. So had the Mets managed to win, they would have done even worse (though there is no worse than getting swept...maybe by ten runs a game) in the World Series...or so the logic goes.

But ... but ... but ... you're basing that on one WS championship in one appearance, and forgeting that three of Leyland's teams -- the '90, '91, and '92 Pirates -- underacheived in the NL playoffs, never making it to the WS.
Where I think you are wrong is you notion that Leland is somehow the opposite of LaRussa in post-season play. Winning one WS does not make him a post-season genius to LaRussa's dope.

Left field will be defined as the territory from straightaway center field -- directly from home plate -- to the left field foul pole, including the foul pole. Over the past three World Series, 23 home runs were hit, and eight of them were hit to either left or left-center field (34.8 percent).

I don't think they would've done that much worse. After all, the Mets lost the series by very little, and won more games than the Cardinals during the regular season. I would much rather have the Tigers win because if the Cards win, (which it looks like they're going to ), I'll just keep thinking, "That could've been us."
