It's not really a parody for "Killing in the Name Of", Al just used RATM's music style.

While it's a style parody and not a direct song parody, "I'll Sue Ya" owes a lot to "Killing in the Name Of" in particular. It's not a parody of the song in the traditional sense, but it borrows the same elements that are in "Killing in the Name Of", particularly the repetitive spoken lines with increased emphasis (and volume) upon each repetition.
I think you could call it a parody of "Killing in the Name Of" the same way you could argue "Mr. Popeil" is in many ways a parody of "Rock Lobster." Sure, it's more of a style parody of the B-52s in general, but it owed a lot to one particular song.

Ahh..considering that I've never heard a song from Rage Against the Machine, it explains why I'm clueless.

"Trigger Happy" was similar in that it mimic The Beach Boys' style but did not mimic a particular song. It bugged me forever to figure out which song it was until I found out that it wasn't a parody of a particular song.

Got this one yesterday and am enjoying it. "White & Nerdy" is already stuck in my head, I cracked up at "Pancreas", and I absolutely love "Weasel-Stomping Day". My sister and listened to the CD in the car, and all I can say it was a good thing I was at a full stop when we heard it because I'm pretty sure I would have lost control of the vehicle because I was laughing so hard.
She wants to play this one and pass out flyers the next time PETA shows up at the Brickyard.

We need to make Weasel Stomping Day into a real holiday...something like, October 27th? Given that October is Al's birth month and 27...well, if you're a die-hard, you'll know why.

Al does a lot of style parodies.
Straight Outta Lynwood also have Virus Alert, Don't Download This Song, and Pancreas (Sparks, 80s benifit songs, and Brian Wilson, respectively), Dare To Be Stupid is in the style of Devo...he's done others that haven't been mentioned yet, but I can't think of them offhand.
"Buy Me a Condo" -- Bob Marley/Reggae in general "Mr. Popeil" -- the B-52's "Dare to be Stupid" -- Devo "Slime Creatures From Outer Space" -- The Police "Dog Eat Dog" -- Talking Heads "Twister" -- Beastie Boys "Good Old Days" and "You Don't Love Me Anymore" -- James Taylor "Trigger Happy" -- the Beach Boys "I Was Only Kidding" -- Tonio K (obscure, but true!) "When I Was Your Age" -- Don Henley "Everything You Know Is Wrong" -- They Might Be Giants "Bob" -- Bob Dyland "Genius In France" -- Frank Zappa "Pancreas" -- Brian Wilson "I'll Sue Ya" -- Rage Against the Machine "Close But No Cigar" -- CAKE "Don't Download This Song" -- USA For Africa, etc.
This is mostly a personal list. The "List of Songs By "Weird Al" Yankovic" on Wikipedia (I'd link it, but I can't seem to make it work) mentions others, but some I don't know enough to judge (I'm a fan of the Rugburns, but I've never heard "Dick's Automotive" so I can't say if "Albuquerque" really bears any resemblance) and in others I actually disagree (I don't think "Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota" sounds particularly like anything by Harry Chapin or Gordon Lightfoot; and "Buckingham Blues" is absolutely not done in the style of "Jack and Diane" by John Mellencamp, though I've long suspected it originally was intended to parody it). And in a few cases I've caught ones they missed (I always thought "I Was Only Kidding" sounded like Tonio K, particularly his song "Hatred", but I was never sure till just recently I saw an interview with Al where he made a reference to him -- he didn't say which of his songs was the parody, but once you know there is one, it's obvious). I also am enough of a fan of Sparks to say I think calling "Virus Alert" a parody of their style is quite a stretch, but maybe I'm wrong.

"You Make Me" sounds like an Oingo Boingo style parody to me (compare the percussion with Gray Matter)
Also, I always figured "Slime Creatures From Outer Space" was a Thomas Dolby style parody while "Velvet Elvis" was the Police parody.

Brandi, actually I think you're really right on both of those. "Velvet Elvis" certainly is closer to the style of the Police than "Slime Creatures," though I always thought the latter had some elements. "Velvet Elvis" is one of those songs I rarely listen to, though, so I don't think of it as much.

I got the CD, and well I listen to it all, but I can't say that I enjoyed it all that much.
I do believe a second go around is needed, Because I do generally love the stuff he puts out and I am not sure why I don't like this CD.

God help me. I just turned "Weasel Stomping Day" into a StepMania song.
It makes the instrumental section that much more creepy.
ETA: According to the Wikipedia entry on "Weasel Stomping Day", the official date is July 31st.

Even before the music video for "You Don't Love Me Anymore" came out I thought it was a style parody of Extreme's "More Than Words." The video is certainly a direct parody of Extreme's video. That being said, I could just as easily be convinced it is in fact a style parody of James Taylor.

Traffic Jam sounds a lot like Prince. That's as close to a Prince song we're ever going to get because Prince won't allow Al to parody his songs.

'Weird Al' Yankovic finally hits the top 10
quote: "Lynwood," Yankovic's 12th album, debuted this month at No. 10 on the Billboard 200, his first top 10 album ever. Meanwhile, the Chamillionaire parody "White and Nerdy," reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, besting his previous high of No. 12 with "Eat It" in 1984.

Not seeing it. God Only Knows is a moderately paced, mellow song with a consistent sound throughout. Pancreas gets pretty upbeat and has several changes in tone.

I think Pancreas starts out like God Only Knows but sounds a bit like [i]Good Vibrations[/b] in the middle.

I think "Pancreas" is definitely derived from the style of Brian Wilson's Smile -- which does inclued an updated version of "Good Vibrations," so there is certainly reason for a resemblance there.

Apparently I'm the minority here but I thought Poodle Hat was far better than Lynwood. I gotta agree with Mac about the reason, too...I'm not a rap fan at all so I didn't know many of the parodies in SOL & that does take away some of the fun.
Personally, Pancreas did remind me of God Only Knows at the very start...drove me nuts until I remembered what Beach Boys song started like that.
As far as a few of Al's originals that've been mentioned, I absolutely loved Albuquerque but I just couldn't stand Genius In France. And I can't even pinpoint why...just didn't like it & skip over it everytime I listen to PH.

I knew more songs on PH than Lynwood, but I like Lynwood better. I thought his original songs were much better this time around.
Although my daughter leaves the room during Weasel Stomping Day. She hates it.

I just got the cd yesterday and as much as I like it, I wish I knew more of the original songs.
Has anyone had any trouble with the disc in a slot loading cd player? The disc is thicker than a normal cd and it got stuck in cd player in my car. I had to fish it out with my keys. I guess I'll just copy it and use the copy.

Speaking of Weird Al, did anyone see "Al TV"? If you missed it you may still be able to catch it on VH-1. They showed videos for mant of the songs from Straight Outta Lynwood, as well as his usual fake interviews.
