Ozzy's (well, I guess Sabbath's, really) song "War Pigs" - are there multiple versions of this? I don't just mean longer with a solo or some such, but completely different lyrics. I swear I have heard 2, or possibly three different versions of this song.

I think there's a different version on "The Ozzman Cometh", but I'm not 100% sure. I just listened to it last night and it sounded different than when I listened to my Black Sabbath CD over the weekend.

And on early live recordings of Black Sabbath (1969 - 70) that are circulating, the lyrics are definitely different. It's been awhile since I listened to them but if I recall, it's more 'witches burning into ashes' type stuff.

Yes, there is an alternate version of War Pigs out (I have a copy). It came on the second (Supposedly limited bonus) disc of "Ozzman Cometh". As far as I know, it's the original version, one of the reasons for the crazy cover of the "Paranoid" disc. The song was originally "Walpurgis" (Any wiccans want to correct my spelling?), but before the release Ol' Charlie and the family started raising hell. That's how I heard that the song was changed to what we know today.
Give me a few minutes to find my copy and I'll post the lyrics.

Correction, it's song 2 on the first disc. It follows the same score (Except the outro doesn't get really fast near the end), but you can tell that it's early (You notice the same thing on the "Reunion" album - that sort of slighty rusty sound, if you understand)
Witches gather at black masses Bodies burning in red ashes On the hill the church in ruins 'Tis the scene of evil doings It's the place for all black sinnners Watch them eating dead rats in the hut I guess it's the same Wherever you may go -- Oh Lord yeah
Carry banners wisting of the Lord See my rocking in my grave See them anoint my head with dead rotten blood (Something I can't make out) oh Don't hold me back oh I just gotta go Satan's got a hold on my soul now (More gibberish) in my brain (Little more) Look in my eyes I'm (Something else) -- Yeah
On the scene the priest of peons Sinners falling at his knees Satan sends out funeral pyre Cast the priest into the fire 'Tis the place for all bad sinners Watch them eating dead rats in the hut I guess it's the same Wherever you may go -- Oh Lord yeah ...
I'm having trouble understanding some of the lines, but what's there is what I know. You all know what Ozzy was on during this time. Hell, he probably would have done "Inna Godda Da Vida" if Iron Butterly didn't drink him to it. Unfourtunately this doesn't come with printed lyrics, and it's previously unreleased state means the fan transcriptions are the best you can get right now.
Edits: Filling in lyrics as I understand a little more.
