Just finished watching-I'd really been looking forward to it and had my pillow at the ready!
David Tennant will take a bit of getting used to, but the early signs are good.I like how he is distinct from Christopher Eccleston, but that the Doctor's relationship with Rose it still important to him. I think Billie had a bit of fun being Cassandra!
I wonder if what the Face of Bo said will be this series' equivalent of Bad Wolf?
Can't wait for K-9!
Bug, do you get it at the same as us, or do you have to wait?

They seemed to be hinting strongly that this was the case. We will see!

I get BBC One, Two and World, fortunately.
It's wasn't perfect, but I liked it a lot. The one-liners worked perfectly, cat people are always fun and while the action scenes were a bit silly the wonderfully poetic ending made up for it.

Twas okay, but I'm hoping that it was a 'weak' episode and hence will be followed by a stronger episode next week. (Which I shall probably end up missing as I don't watch much TV when back up Edinburgh. I'm with family at the moment.)

Last season started slow, too. I'd still rate this one above Rose entertainment-wise.

Downloading now...should have a response in a few hours assuming the BBC hasn't hunted me down.
Watching "Dalek" again on Sci-Fi last night has NOT made my life any easier!

Yeah, while I agree that it wasn't "the best of the best", I did enjoy it a lot, and it's certainly not the weakest episode I've seen. I love Tennant, and didn't find him being the Doctor at all weird. Eccleston's so last year.
While mostly a silly romp to get us started (all reports are that this series is going to be much darker and scarier overall than the last one), there were moments of poigniency, both with the diseased people touching each other and with Cassandra. Threefold with Cassandra, actually. First when she was inside the diseased person and realised how horrible it had been for them, then when she tells herself that she's beautiful, and finally when you realise that the last person to tell her that she was beautiful was herself.
One minor continuity nitpick, though. She shouldn't have been so surprised at what it was like to be a man - she was born a boy.
As for the Face of Boe, the thing that I found most interesting is that the legend called the Doctor a God, and he simply accepted that. Arrogance, or something else?

Oh and was I the only one that noticed a possible subtle political message, what with the universal symbol for medical aid being a green crescent?

Right, by a few hours, I meant nearly 24 hours. Darn torrents.
Anyway, the diseased people just creeped me out - I can't take that. Really can't. But it was good to see them survive - something that's struck me about this series is that it doesn't necessarily go the easy route and, say, incinerate them in a giant explosion. Instead, they live on as the first of a new species.
David Tennant's taking some getting used to - watching the 9th Doctor right before this every week is making me dizzy.

Tooth and Claw wasn't very good I'm afraid. The plot was all over the place, with scenes and bits of dialogue that went absolutely nowhere.
A filler episode, really.

I thought Tooth and Claw was quite enjoyable. Kung fu monks, a big scary werewolf, a gun toting Queen Victoria (Pauline Collins excellent as usual) - what's not to like?

Disappointing. I hated the beginning with all the jump cutting and slow motion fight scenes. Damm Matrix . Why was it mistletoe and not silver that harmed the wolf? I found the whole thing a bit incoherant. Did anyone else think the werewolf looked a bit like the werewolf from Prisoner of Azkaban ?
About the only interesting bit was a bit of exposition about Torchwood, which should be coming soon. I still don't understand why the Queen turned so suddenly on the Doctor.
However, next week K9 returns, and all will be well.

I thought it was wicked. Absolutely great. In fact, the only bit I didn't really like was the bit about Torchwood. That felt less like a bit of the programme, and more like an advert for another programme.
As for the kung-fu at the beginning, I agree that the shooting/editing was really poor, but am I the only person that thinks that the whole thing was a dig at the BBC idents?
Thordis, they explained about the mistletoe.

Boy, you Brits sure love to slag off on your royals;) "Oh my God, they're all werewolves!"
I found the first chunk of the episode a bit incoherent, but I also found myself, for the first time in a while, having trouble understanding the accents. Personally, I want to know where all the monks went after the wolf died. Seeing as they were still armed and such, I'm kind of surprised nobody was concerned about them, say, shooting at them.
Is there something I'm missing with the "I am not amused" bit? I had no idea what that gag was referring to.
And that telescope moon laser reminded me of the even larger laser featured at the end of The Christmas Invasion. Since we've been told this season will sow the seeds for Torchwood, then it looks like we got a few more nuggests for it (such as where they got the inspiration for the laser in the first place!)

I know why the monks used the mistletoe, I was just wondering why the writer chose mistletoe as opposed to silver.
Trollface, I didn't notice the resemblence to the idents straight away, but yeah, it was very similar!

Just a theory, but it was probably easier to wrap themselves in mistletoe (a plant) than silver (a metal). Since the wolf's mistletoe allergy was a ruse the monks used to control it, they would want something easy to procure, easy to carry, and easy to show off at a moment's notice should the need arise. Silver is rather expensive, while mistletoe is a weed and it's everywhere.
I liked that it didn't fall back on silver as a standby myself.
Gerard, thanks for the source of the quote. I'm surprised I didn't know it since it is so well known.

I had an audience with Queen Victoria this afternoon. Some of the younger children who were also granted an audience were most confused. They only knew her from last night's 'Doctor Who' episode.
BTW, I - like Thordis - was confused about why the Queen turned so suddenly on the Doctor. The programme is worth watching for Rose in a short skirt, though!
(Perhaps I should also add that I was at an 'English Heritage' St. George's Day festival and Queen Victoria was not the real Queen Victoria - at least I don't think she was. )

I was somewhat confused myself, but someone on another board raised a good point. Throughout this entire ordeal, Rose and the Doctor were giggling, laughing, and being flippant while the world fell apart. The theme of this season is supposed to be much darker than the last one. Perhaps the Queen's dressing down of the both of them was a bit of foreshadowing of future events?
Irregardless of foreshadowing, when dozens of people around you are being torn apart by a werewolf out for your blood and this foppish guy and his naked girlfriend keep cracking jokes and trying to get you to say you're not amused, wouldn't you have a rather low opinion of them regardless of their obvious skill?
Sigh. I really miss our wolf icon. It would have been perfect

Two things I'm a little weary of are werewolves as mindless serial killers (really, why not just stick any old alien monster in there as have a werewolf if you're gonna do that?) and this habit of high government officials turning on the Doctor after he pulls their chops outta the fire.
So far we've seen Harriet Jones and Queen Victoria at loggerheads with the Doctor after he saves their butts, and it makes me wonder whether the producers are going to go somewhere with this idea of humans reacting to the Doctor with fear and paranoia rather than his once awesome charisma proving winsome.
I did rather like that Rose and the Doctor thought the werewolf was really cool. If you get the chance, find the audio-play "Loups-Garox," with Peter Davison and Mark Strickson. I'd also heard that the "Bad Wolf" arc from the previous season still has a few loose ends in it, and they touched on that in this ep.

Well, to be fair, those in positions of authority have never been too fond of the Doctor - he's too anti-establishment for that.

The werewolf actually wasn't acting mindlessly - it only had one target and only attacked people who it perceived as directly opposing that one goal. I was impressed at how smart it actually was when it actually climbed up the roof to get around the mistletoe in the doors. Sort of how last week, the diseased patients lumbered around like zombies until it was finally revealed that they weren't touching people for the hell of it, they were touching people because they had never been touched.
I also spotted the connection of this being the second time in a short span that the Doctor has been rebuked by a higher authority. It's part of why I enjoyed the Christmas Invasion so much, actually. It forces you to question who actually did the right thing instead of just lazily saying that the Doctor is always right because he's the star.

I liked this episode significantly more than the first one. The first one was, to me, complete rubbish.
I loved Tennant in TCI, but I haven't really enjoyed his portrayal of the character in the first two real episodes of this series. I'm not feeling the gravitas necessary for a "wacky" Doctor yet. Troughton and Baker had it. I'm hopeful that I'll start feeling it soon from Tennant.
I agree with Rebochan that The Doctor was acting, quite frankly, like a dick. Baker could be flippant at times during a crisis, but the giggling and whatnot was just too much.

And with this episode, the series gets it's groove back. I loved it; much more coherent and engrossing then Tooth & Claw.
And K9 is so cute !

I agree. An excellent episode. Not only was it a well-thought out story, it was great to see 'K9' again. In the last series we found out what happens to the people Dr. Who's companions leave behind. Today we found out what happens to his companions when he leaves them behind. OK, Sarah Jane Smith was not my favourite companion (too emotional, as she was tonight), but it was good to see her again and her post-doctor story.
Only six days and twenty-three hours to go until the next episode.
