Hey. I ain't been around this month a lot, but I'm still a-planning to come up Saturday. Dumb question: Is that 3 p.m. Central or Eastern time?
Dumb question number two: Can someone provide a map to the restuarant from I-75 (I'll be coming up from the south.
I'll also be bringing my 15-year-old daughter with me, who wonders why you all chose the zoo over the Warped Tour, which is in Detroit that day.
See you all there.

North on I-75. Merge onto I-696 W / WALTER P REUTHER FWY via EXIT 61 toward LANSING. Take EXIT 16 toward M-1 / WOODWARD AVE / MAIN ST / DETROIT ZOO. Stay STRAIGHT to go onto E 10 MILE RD. Turn RIGHT onto S MAIN ST. The restaurant is on your left at 5th Avenue. The parking structure is a block West and North. Map

I am not driving anybody to the zoo! I'm meeting at the mall, but I am hitching a ride with someone else. I still haven't live down the last trip! (And probably never will!) I am not about to give you guys any more fodder.
And I only lightly tapped that cone!

I'll will see everyone tomorrow around 10 am at the zoo entrance. Since Red Wings hats are rather common, I will be wearing my hat with the Munsingwear penguin logo.
As a backup for those who may have trouble arriving on time, I suggest we plan on being in the Penguinarium at 10:30. The Penguinarium is found by going to the left from the main entrance at the zoo. It will be a large, blue (unless they painted it) building on the right as you move up the main path. There are three viewing stations inside. With 20 people, we will probably be spread around all three, but the rockhoppers are at the last station.

So - 9:30 at the mall, 10:00 at the front entrance, 10:30 at the Penguinarium ... after that, you're all on your own.

I'll be leaving work shortly and hitting the road. Sadly, I will be without net access for the remainder of the weekend. So if anything comes up - er, well, I don't know what to tell you. You're all on your own.
See everyone tomorrow morning!

I-75 both directions from Dixie Highway to I-275 Mon 4/17/06, 7 AM to Wed 11/15/06, 4 PM Single Lane Closure Details: I-75 both directions will be reduced to two lanes with a lane shift from Dixie Highway to I-275.
Get off at LaPlaisance (exit 11)*. Turn left off the freeway. After the railroad tracks, turn left onto Dunbar Road. The first light is S. Dixie Hwy. Turn Right onto that and continue North (it will turn into Telegraph Road north of town) about 10 miles. At Newport Road, turn Right. (It's a stoplight and a DTE Energy warehouse-y looking building.) Get on the freeway at Newport Road (exit 21). You should avoid all the construction.
*If traffic is really backed up, getting off at Exit 9, heading away from the lake and turning North on South Dixie will do the same thing.

The construction shouldn't be too bad on a Saturday morning, though. I just went up to visit my folks who live between Detroit and Monroe, and there wasn't really any trouble passing through the construction zone, northbound or southbound. A little slow, but considering that it was on a Friday afternoon, not so bad!

The bad news is, I'm not making it to the meet this time. I put in notice at work and was planning on coming if they decided to let me go right away (as is common in IT) but they need me too much right now. So I'm working both days this weekend.
The good news is, the reason I put in my notice - in September I will be moving to Owosso MI, between Flint and Detroit, so next time this meet rolls around I'll be in the neighborhood!

Wow, was the meet ever fun! I'm so glad I got to see everyone again, plus meet all the "new" folks. And my son, now nicknamed BeanSprout, had a blast. He really seemed to like everyone, and I think he had a good time.
Can't wait to do it again next year!

Plankton was adorable, and dealing much better w/ the heat than mine would have as babies.
Definitely next year- but perhaps on a much cooler day?

Yeah, I'm thinking not quite in the dead of summer next year. A bit earlier (April or May?) or later (September?) in the year perhaps.
But regardless - great meet! Nice seeing everyone again, and meeting the ones I hadn't met - including the real Pogue this time (we didn't have to pay someone to pretend to be Pogue).
I've been busy the past couple days and too tired last night to do it, so I haven't pulled the pictures off my camera yet. I'll get that done and post them as soon as possible.

A cooler day would be better, but very hard to plan for.
As the new person to the meet, I found it very interesting and quite enjoyable. I have a feeling everything was a little more 'subdued' than normal due to the heat!
Next year sounds like a plan.

Subdued? Snopesters? Yeah, I guess you're right. Anyway, it was amazingly fun-- just think how much fun it would have been if we hadn't all been melting! Maybe a June meet would be better next year.
I really liked meeting all the cute little snopelings, too. The Bach_kids and Poguelette are beautiful girls, and BeanSprout and Plankton are adorable!

Yup, Lizzy's a Buckeye now, just like Minstrel. Blame chillas.
I think a cooler day would be a good idea. Although I did have fun, and I'm glad BeanSprout and I didn't get sunburned.
Minstel, BeanSprout sure took a liking to you! And to Pouge. I'm glad you guys had fun with him.
The kitties made it just fine. chillas got stuck with them both, and the guinea pig, just because of the heat. My car has no ac. But everyone survived.
Next year for sure!

They've been pretty quiet about it, so it's easy for anyone to have missed it.
So, tag, you are going to HAVE to come to next year's meet, because they are just beyond fun!

I'm leery about planning to come to the Michigan meets because I'm afraid I might jinx them. The very first one planned began falling apart rather abruptly. I was living in California at the time and was going to be in Michigan for a couple weeks. Anyway, finally, it was down to only three of us. But, oh well, I went anyway. I was the only one that showed up. *pout* I think somewhere deep down I believe that if I say I'm coming, no one will want to come.

Ah, Tag, that's just not true! You have to come to the next one. They really are so much fun!
Yeah, chillas and I have been pretty quiet about our relationship, but I guess there's no sence in hiding it anymore. Especially after the meet. People saw us holding hands after all.

Ok, but will you be going to the zoo again? I love the zoo. I haven't been since a group of friends did a walk for the chimps, a fund-raiser to build the "new" chimp facilities.
I was trying, at one point, to get some indication of interest in having a general snopes meet at Cedar Pointe. After all, people come from all over the world to go to Cedar Pointe. That'd be a kick, wouldn't it? But, I didn't get much response.
So now you and Minstrel have jumped ship and are both buckeyes? What is this world coming to? You know my friend that lives south of Dayton always tells me Ohio is the tropics. You'll be sorry. He's right!
I'm glad everyone had a good time!

The tropics? Come on, I only moved about 50 miles! But if it does turn out to be tropical, I grew up in Florida, and Lizzy grew up in California, so I think we'll be okay. But I am NOT a Buckeye.
Zoos tend to work well for our meets, possibly because we should be in one? (Don't answer that.) But for what it's worth, I think a Cedar Point snopes meet would absolutely rock.
ETA: But then, next year we might have to go here.

Wouldn't we burst into flames by entering such a place? I know we would probably set a record on how quickly we were escorted from the premises.
Well, okay, we'd probably want a backup plan if we went there, or it could be the shortest meet ever.
The moon will be full on Wednesday. I guess we'll find out then which of us were bitten by were-butterflies in the butterfly house.

Hey I may have missed the meet but I also brought up a good possibility for the location of the next one (of which I am making it a goal to attend)
I think that crazy creation museum it would be a great place to do a meet. It opens next May! If the museum-y atmosphere is of interest to others, Cincinnati's art museum is free to the public, and we also have the Museum Center which is really cool.
Has there ever been an OH/MI meet this far south? I think it's a wonderful location... What? No, why would I be biased?

This was only our second official meet, paisley. Last year's was in Toledo. Cincinnati certainly wouldn't be ruled out as a future possibility, though.
