I'm up for that... but that probably goes without saying!
It's the North's turn again, isn't it?

I’m up for it then if I have Mosh to hold my hand! I’ve always been a bit scared about walking into a crowded bar and joining the wrong crowd and talking rubbish to them for hours without realising it!
Not the w/e of the 12th Novemeber though- I will be at my Uni reunion trying to track down my unrequited love.

November will be out for me as I'm going to be moving. Will December be too much for people, what with you-know-what happening at the end of it?
I was thinking some time in the New Year might be good

I'm up for it! I always am. Whenever, wherever and all that.
But can I request a slightly more northerly location? Perhaps between London and the midlands? (Although Hinckley has excellent transport links )

I'm definately up for another meeting and those of you paying attention to my location line will notice that I am now in a somewhat more Northerly location than before. I doubt I'll be able to keep my moving arround up to keep up with Snope's meets though.
Early November (4th-6th) is not good for me, I shall be heading to visit all the people I just left behind. However most other weekends should be okay, work permitting, although as I have my first mini-project write up due begining of December I may be very stressed and/or busy. (Although given the nature of research this could equally apply to any weekend.)
But on the whole I'm up for anywhere in the more northerly reaches that can be got to from Edinburgh.

Who's going to jump in a suggest a location then? We've already done Manchester, Liverpool is a bit out-of-the-way, and I don't really know any other northern cities well enough to suggest anywhere.
And a date must be settled upon! *takes bull by horns* Who's free when in January and February? I am free all weekends so far, with a possible exception of 10th February weekend but nothing definite is arranged.

Bah! We always have to wait three months before everybody can make it! I demand instant gratification!
I'm free all of January and February so far except for New Year. (... actually I'm free New Year too at the moment, but hopefully I won't be by the time.)
(edit) Completely OT, but can anybody remember which forum the "Embarrassing place names" thread is in? That's the trouble with using Active Topics - you lose track, and when things stop being active you can't find them...
(edit again) Aha, found it under Trivia. That has to be the oldest thread on the board...

I probably won't be free in January or February. But I might forward a photo of myself (suitably disguised) to one of the attendees so you can set up a little shrine, or something....

I thought of suggesting Birmingham (only 1/2 hour by train for me!), although I only know how to get to the Hippodrome (With a few pubs and a Gay Bar near by) and Aston University (Sh*t hole) from New Street station, I think there are some pubs around by the Law Courts and along New Street it's self. Oh and the Bullring is near by, so around there? Wee Wifey is a Brummie, she should be able to sggest somewhere, although she is probably about 15 years out of date by now .

Yeah, but if you have one, then Dara will want one, and that'll just lead to unpleasantness.
But "or something" sounds promising.

I went to university in Birmingham and although it's changed a LOT since then - and that's only a good thing - I can still find my way round. IIRC there aren't any sparklingly fantastic pubs in the city centre, but I'm willing to be corrected. Wee Wifey, where art thou?
(I am disturbed to think that Birmingham has been picked as a northern city )
How does the alst weekend in Januray suit everyone? Ooh, I could tie it in with a tattoo session...

We should all get tatoos to commemorate the meet, or something. (Damn, I wish I hadn't thought of that now...)
Looks like it's easy enough to get to Birmingham from Ipswich. I think this is the first time I've ever heard Birmingham suggested as a good place for a fun day out, but I'm happy to give it a try!

Okay, Richard, I've got myself inked. "snopes" right across my forehead. Or at least it reads "snopes" if you look in a mirror. Perhaps I should have thought that through first....

I actually have a small "porta-shrine" for just this sort of purpose. Handy, collapsible, and a must-have for the keen camper and caravanner, as a supplementary to their larger home shrine to Dara.
Which, of course, I assume you all have.
Anyway, while I'm not opposed to the idea of Birmingham per se, I would question the wisdom of going somewhere which is none of our home towns. Since it's not going to be London, I'll have to travel anyway, but surely someone should a) get to not have to travel miles, and b) know some of the local pubs?
I would also prefer to go somewhere where a member of my family lives and I can get a free doss. So I suggest either Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield or Nottingham. Liverpool and Nottingham we've done before, but I don't think that should necessarily rule them out, if they're convenient for many people.
Or, I've always fancied going out in Newcastle. I've heard great things about it.

Brum is practically Holly's home town, isn't it? And it's not that far from me, although obviously I won't have many objections to Nottingham at all (Apart from nottingham itself - I object to that strongly)

tell me about it. last time I was in good old Brummigem, I didn't recognize the place.
The Gay bar you were mentioning wouldn't be Hero's would it, Holly? I once threw a pole dancer off her pole there, and promptly took her place .
The best pubs in Brum, are on broad street and around gas street basin, although this is a bit of a trek from New Street. From Holly's link, the newt and cucumber and the yard of ale were always very decent, and are about as easy to find from New street station as is possible.
Zachary- you have to come, who else can I mock pirates with

ETA: if we do go to brum, people should aquaint themselves with this

I'm sure the Newt has changed hands recently. I'm off for a tattoo session on Saturday week, so I'll try not to get distracted by the Bull Ring and have a look.

Very well, then. Brum it is. wee wifey is mission-coordinator, and will identify suitable locations with, I am sure, the admirable assistance of her consort Doc J.
Now we just have to agree a date. What about Saturday the 14th of January?

Well I live about twenty five miles away and work there but I can count the number of times i've been into the city centre on one hand.
The 14th is good for me! I will reiterate the fact that I am always up for it and there is no need to be polite.

No, it was called Prague, next to O'Neills opposite the Hippodrome. It wasn't that exciting, no pole dancers or anything. My friend and I are still debating whether a gay bar is a safe place to leave your boyfriends alone together or not.
So are we definately set on Birmingham? Or shall I throw lovely Leicester into the arena? Posts: 1555 | From: Leicestershire, England | Registered: Mar 2002
