Crinkly Bottom wasn't a town - it was a TV theme park that operated for a while outside Southport (I think). It was the brainchild of Noel Edmonds, who had an inexplicably popular TV show called Noel's House Party - one of his running jokes was about a mythical English village called Crinkly Bottom. There are some amusing English names - my favourites are the twin villages of Upper and Lower Piddle, situated on the River Piddle in Dorset., Another name I rather like is Penistone in Derbyshire - newspapers occasionaly hyphenate it in the wrong place, and I believe that it still confuses censorship software!

I always found it amusing that there is a GNAWBONE, Indiana. I assume it was founded by dogs.
There is also a FREE, Indiana which I think was either started by hippies or the residents believe that Indiana is being occupied by some foreign invader.
I wish I could think of a naughty town name, but it's late so you get the dregs of the barrel.

by the way, Gnawbone has the coolest flea market in the world where I bought a mint condition Bob Dylan "Blonde on Blonde" for $10. So I highly recommend anyone passing through to go there if you can find it on the map (I belive it is Brown County, in between Bloomington and Columbus).

I used to live in Worms! It is of course best known for the "Diet of Worms" in 1521 in which an edict was issued against Martin Luther. Makes the grapefruit diet sound a bit more appetizing sez I.

I think it was back in January that Jay Leno's show had Miss Hooker as a guest. She was a lovely 19 year old winner of a beauty contest, that had a great sense of humor about the name of the town. She had to because Leno skewered it, over and over.
To think, I missed Hooker in my list of Okie towns. What was I thinking? Not about hookers apparently.

Abra - I'm glad to see another Arkansan on the board. You missed a few great Arkansan towns like Booger Hollow ("population 7 countin' 1 coon dog"), Possom Grape, and Toad Suck Ferry.
If fact we are already gearing up for Toad Suck Daze, held the first week of May.

I saw the Toad Suck exit off I-40 on my first trip across Arkansas back in August. I was amuzed at the time, but do they know that toad sucking is a serious problem in some parts of the world? They should seriously consider a change in their name. How about Coke Snort or Doobie Toke?

Not having seen them mentioned, there is (was?) the town of Impact, just outside of Abilene, Texas. At the time I was there, it was the only place to buy alcohol within 90 miles. Next, we have the quaint community of Tain't Much, Alabama, population 3. And now, in this part of Florida, we have Mossy Head, and just to be nice about it, Niceville.

I don't think Washington has nay sexually suggestive names, but there are some interesting ones. *Dusty *Start Up, named so because it's at the base of a mountain *Plain, home of the Plain Grocery and Plain Hardware store *George *Concrete *There is also Lewiston and Clarkston, one is in Idaho and one is in Washington, and they are very close.
Then there are the names the tourists can never pronounce, such as Yakima, Puyallup, Leavenworth, Sequim and Chelan.

I can't think of any dirty names from Connecticut, but here are some interesting towns, areas and streets:
Bara-Heck Settlement,Junction of Routes 47 and 99 in Pomfret, an abandoned village Beaver Meadow Road Bee and Thistle Inn, Old Lyme Bethlehem Bible Rock Bird-in-Hand Bed and Breakfast, Coventry Bozrah Cackleberry Farm Antiques, just off Route 14, Canterbury Calf Pasture Park Canaan Cow's Outside, Danbury Fair Mall (And yes, there IS a cow outside the shop. A life-sized, mooing, boot-shod cow.) Devil's Den Preserve Devil's Hopyard Goshen Hang Dog Lane (I don't know why it's called that) Hebron (pronounced HE-brun) Higganum Ivoryton Lime Rock Park Lyme (it has a disease named after it) Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center (Part of the Mashantucket Pequot-owned Foxwoods Casino) Mashomoquet Brook Middlesex County Moodus Moosup Mystic (The movie was right, Mystic Pizza does come from here) Naugatuck Old Lyme Nut Museum (Yes, it's a museum given over to nuts--nut jewelry, nut carvings, nut toys, nut sculpture and the world's largest nut--a 35-pound coco-de-mer grown on an island on the Indian Ocean.) Pauchaug Forest (it's a rhododendron sanctuary) Pomfret Quinebaug Rocky Neck State Park Shenipsit Trail Sleeping Giant State Park Thimble Islands (325 islands off the coast of Branford's Stony Creek. No, they are NOT thimble-sized--they were named after a kind of wild blackberry [thimble berries] that grew on the islands. Many stories of Captain Kidd are linked to these islands.) Voluntown Whale Oil Row, New London
The Connecticut agency governing state taxes and revenues is in the Hooker Building.

I don't think so; I've never heard of it and I can't find it on any map. I suppose there could be a hamlet of that name, though. There are, however, a Wapping and a Leighton Buzzard...
