Spunky means good-looking - hot - sexy or spirited, according to here, but then again, I'm a native. I had to look up what you Poms use the word for, and courageous would also be an apt description for our ladies. Unless, of course, there's another use for the word in the Old Dart...a lewd one, I suspect.
I think the US equivalent is "foxy"
The only way you'd catch an Aussie using the word "gorgeous" would be describing the head on his beer.

Oh, I know what it means in Aussie - I'm a rabid Neighbours fan, so I know some of the lingo. Actually I'm a fan of a lot of Aussie media. I don't think I've ever seen a bad Aussie film, for example.
But, yes, one definition would be "feisty", but that's not the one that my rude brain thinks of. "Spunk" is a substance that a man produces that a woman doesn't. And if something or someone were "spunky", then it might suggest that they are covered in the stuff.
Which is vaguely along the same lines as saying "she's an attractive girl", but you can see why it caused me a giggle.

I never fail to guffaw whenever someone in Neighbours refers to a good-looking character as 'a hunk of spunk'. It sounds so obscene.

Without a doubt, Northern Lite because that expression is just too perfect.
Really good ones all around this round though.

Well, huh. I didn't realize that at all. I just grabbed a teddy bear, a little princess crown, and stuck my thumb in my mouth. Now I feel kinda silly.

Great subject and great entries. It's a toss up between SatansHobbit's entry and Northern Lite's. I'm going to go with SatansHobbit because it looks like a classic picture from Red Ridign Hood and the dog is so darned cute.

So I hearby declare Baron AmISamedi as the duly elected person to set the next challenge.
It was close at the top, but well done to AmISam for an excellent photograph. Congratulations to everyone who entered, but especially to SatansHobbit and Northern Lite for running AmI Sam so close.
I will now put a maggot on my tongue because I await AmISam's challenge with baited breath.

That was repugnant Andrew! Honestly. It's dinner time in the Central time zone, you know.
Congratulations, AmISam! I look forward to the next challenge.

I know KitoBOO - I am suffering withdrawal symptoms. Particularly as the only one I really get the time for is the weekend challenge. I guess amISam has different time commitments.

Getting very soggy. And it ruined the taste of my cauliflower cheese that I had for my tea tonight.
I see that AmISam lives in Clagary in Canada which means that it must be early afternoon there as I write (at 22:19 British Summer Time). This means it has been almost twenty-three hours since the result was announced.
I don't know how long we wait before - I presume - giving the honour of choosing the next round to the second placed person. Does anyone have a ruling on this?

Maybe it should be 24 hours. I thought the rationale for the 24 hour length of the competition and the judging was that it allowed all time zones to compete equally.
If someone lets us know they will be longer that's fine of course.
Has anyone PM'd AmISam ?

I'd hate to see AmISam loose his opportunity to start the next challenge, though. Maybe it's because it's the weekend? He must not have realized he was winning.
I just sent him a quick PM. Let's hope he checks his email as often as I do.

Oh, I agree.
I was thinking that 24 hours to claim your chance to choose and give a time should be the rule.
It doesn't seem very fair to apply it right now because there has because IamSam isn't party to the new rule and may have no idea he won. I guess we have to give up eventually though. It would be unfortunate if the challenges disappear because they become irregular.

It 23:00 now (British Summer Time) and I am off to bed soon. If when I get up (at about 08:00 tomorrow morning) I look and see if AmISam has set a challenge. If not should we let Northern Lite set the next challenge (by then it will be late Saturday evening in Calgary and well over 24 hours after the challenge)?
ETA: Baron AmISamedi has started the new challenge!
