Before the airlift, [preservation architect Klaus] Roesch used a telephoto lens to inspect the statue's holes. "There's an urban legend of bullet holes in Miss Freedom," Roesch says. The Capitol's copper dome was pierced with bullets, but so far the restoration team has not found any in the statue.
