Really? Because I thought just the opposite. I'm not a detective, don't play one on TV, but I wouldn't think a cult using blood sacrifice would do something so precise.

Indeed, such markings could only be the work of imperial stormtroopers. (even if most couldn't hit the broad side of a death star).
