My grandmother told my mom this morning that she heard from a friend (confusing enough yet?) that three American presidents are not buried in US soil. Anyone know who they may be, if this is indeed true?

My grandmother is gullible, so I want to make sure things are straightened out.

ETA: changed "on" to "in". Mom and I also thought of a solution, but again, I'm not certain of how true it could be. So- which presidents are buried in a crypt or tomb? They're not in US soil...

That makes 5 (I wasn't sure whether Ford was alive or dead - cue "how could you tell anyway" jokes).

Of the dead ones, none are buried outside the U.S. Not even outside the contiguous 48 states. You can see details here.

Some, technically, are not in soil.

Brad "who's buried in Grant's Tomb?" from Georgia

Actually, most of the recently dead Presidents are probably not buried in US soil since they are buried in a coffin. The longer dead Presidents may be in soil now if the coffin has disintegrated or collapsed.

IIRC, it wasn't the shoe bomber's loud prayers that sparked the takedown by the other passengers; it was that he was trying to light his shoe on fire. Very, very different. Canuckistan
