This site has a lot of interesting information that's backed up by clinical studies and other research, but that runs counter to what we often hear and what a lot of people believe.
Is there a lot of evidence against this? Some of the most "surprising" (i.e. counter to popular belief) things that are on there are the ideas that the state of your immune system has nothing to do with whether you get a cold or not, and that symptoms do not help you get rid of a cold.

BTW, I have tried their suggested remedy of an antihistamine every 12 hours (I use Clemastine Fumarate, sold as "Dayhist" by Kroger) plus 2 ibuprofen and I found that it works quite well and I got much better results than I ever got from zinc tablets or Dayquil.

Hmm... I always heard it was feed a fever and starve a cold.
My dad tried to convince me that plucking nosehairs during cold/flu season made you more susceptible to getting sick because plucking the hairs ripped open teeny tiny blood vessels, which got the virus into your system faster. Anyone else ever heard this? Of course, I can anecdotally offer that it is bunk, because I've never caught more colds as a result of nasal plucking.

Hmm....I don't know if that would make you more susceptible to getting sick....but you are NEVER supposed to pluck nose hairs. It can set up deep infections.

This made me laugh (I work at a kindergarten and have had 3 colds in 2 months).

No way! I love nose hair plucking! The watering eyes. The sneezing a few seconds later. The slight pain when you know you've just missed but you'll get it next time. The pain when you know you've got one. The extra pain when you get a thumbandfingerfull. It's gonna take more than the risk of deep infections to make me stop!

I just wonder how much they paid the "volunteers" to get cold viruses dripped into their noses.

It's so exciting to me to know that cold symptoms do not help you get better. I have always tried to avoid taking cold medicine because I was afraid I was stifling my immune system. Now that I know I can take DayQuil I may never call in sick again.

Whenever I feel a cold coming on, I take lots and lots of vitamin C. (And I never skimp on the Day and Nyquil.) I only started doing the vitamin C thing fairly recently, and now my colds usually go away before the runny nose and cough kicks in. I'll usually feel really tired, and that ends up going away after only a day or so. Am I on to something?
