I have no factual anything on this, but was watching a religious program
just for company when they said that the bible says God will punish anyone
with regard to Israel giving up any of the land God gave them. Then they
proceeded to say that each time President Bush had officially urged Israel
to give up land for peace, awful things happened soon after..911, a storm
with huge waves that went in the Bush's east coast home or retreat,
Hurricane Kartina was supposedly officially named a hurricane the day
after one of Bush's urgings for I. to give up land and something else.

Now I don't put two and two together like these folks and if I'd been more
alert would have more facts on the program, but wondered if this is just
nonsense on one program or has this been stated elsewhere??????

It's has been stated many times and in many places. Hal Lindsey in most of his books (many of which go back more than 30 years), Jerry Falwell on both his "Old Times Gospel Hour," and on some audio cassette tapes he made more than 25 years ago, and Pat Robertson had said it many times on his "700 Club" show (however, I haven't read or seen any of these for at least 10 years.

This belief is based on God's promise to Abraham in Genesis, "I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you." Of course, this also refers to all of Abraham's descendants, which include the Arabs as well as the Jews.

Of course, natural disasters just happen. They are not God's wrath, because if they were then God would be unjust since he would be punishing the innocent with the guilty!

Our old friend Jack Chick would seem to agree; in his tract "Love the Jewish People" he uses this same quote from Genesis and gives examples of nations/empires over the years, from ancient Egypt to Britain, Russia, and the U.S., that have mistreated Israel or Jews, and the bad things that have happened to them.

tract

Thanks.

Of course they're God's wrath! You just don't believe enough, you heretic! [Razz]

People like to see patterns where none exist. That's where things like this come from.

Um...the Great Flood, the complete destruction of Sodom and Gommorah, the Plagues of Egypt, and the punishment of all Eve's female decendants would seem to contradict that viewpoint...

The great thing about making claims about God is you never have to back it up with evidence of causality.

The ancients knew nothing about science, and to them almost everything having to do with nature, including the weather, was supernatural. So when disaster struck, they could only blame it on their sins, proclaiming the disaster was God's punishment. Of course, they would blame it directly on Satan, but that viewpoint still presented God as being the indirect source. For example, the sufferings of Job.

There's always some disaster around and there's always pressure on israel to give up land. However, there is also always someone eating a BigMac without removing the disgusting pickle slices, there's always someone who really thinks it's a good idea to buy a french car, there's always some dog sniffing the butt of another dog.

Concurrent events does not necessarily mean that they are related.

Ah! Now there are two major issues upon which you and I disagree!
