The BBC has voiced regret over a spoof pop video making light of the conflicts in the Middle East, which was made as a joke by London news staff but leaked to a newspaper.

The film features members of the BBC London team prancing around in tea towel head dresses and fake beards in front of a news footage backdrop of tanks, missile launchers and soldiers in gas masks.

Seems to me that whoever leaked that was a real nfbsk.

So what? It's a bit of fun, not a political statement, and it was not intended for public viewing (although I'd love to see it!).

There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

Do they really asterisk out the word "poo" in that report? Blimey - the BBC aren't usually that squeamish, are they?

Spanked by Richard over the word 'poo'.

I have a friend who works for the BBC in London (but not at BBC London, he works for the World Service) and he says that each year the BBC produces an internal Christmas video in which various programmes, presenters and 'public figures' are ridiculed. I saw one once - I bit risque to say the least - but none have been made public. I wonder if the 'leaker' has been found out. If s/he has then I would not like to be in his/her shoes.

The editor is now going to work for Al-Jazeera according to the link. How will they take the news that a person going to work for them has had this video made for him ridiculing Arabs and the war?

Then maybe we need a Middle Eastern spoof of the BBC? If we spent more time laughing with each other at parodies and spoofs, rather than being insulted, the world would be a better place.

Each year at high school, the 6th formers did a play that included sketches poking fun at teachers. It was meant in good humour and as long as it didn't get nasty or personally insulting to any individual, it was always taken in good humour.

Andrew - do you know about the saying "thumbs up for the weather girl" ? AFAIK, it wasn't a BBC spoof, but related to the foibles of one of the weather forecast presenters.

Having watched it, it hardly seems to be "ridiculing Arabs and the war"...

I would really like to see this happen. (as an aside, I remember once hearing a calypso having a go at the Beeb, that was pretty funny)

Sorry, Llewtrah I don't. Sounds fun though. I still miss Michael Fish's dodgy forecasts. And what happened to all those sticky labels that kept becoming 'unsticky'? ('sighs' for the old days.)

Anyway, back to the video. The BBC has broadcast far more insulting things about the 'Arabs' and the war on its satirical programmes. This really is a 'storm in a teacup' and if the person who released news of the video is known then I suggest that he or she finds a new job sharpish.

The British soldiers in the Middle East when they made their spoof video were not (as far as I know) lambasted by their superiors and I seem to recall one saying how good it was.

I thought it was funny and not all offensive. The CD "bling" was a nice touch.
