Mad Jay, the FAQ now states that your first name alone is acceptable:
quote:
Valid values for the "Name" field are your first and last name, first initial and last name, first name and last initial, or first name. Nicknames and initials alone are not acceptable.
I used to use my full name on the board. But now my full name points only to me on Google. I do think I'm the only one who has it. I'm googlable right down to my physical address and phone number. That's when I decided to obscure my information on snopes a bit more.

Someone could probably still find me if they tried but they'd have to work a little bit to do so. It's good enough for me.

I have my first name only in my profile. My first name is very common, but my last name is hyphenated and totally unique.

But my first name and last name are both unique in this country, and I'm pretty sure that I'm the only one with my first name and initial in the city. Putting the state only will make it a bit obscure.

I'm pretty sure that a lurker who knows me personally and goes through my recent posts will know that I have made the post, but that's ok. That's a risk I cannot avoid.
