I have given up on the hope of finding an off the rack pair of slacks in the correct inseam, I have instead discovered the miracle of the tailor. My dry cleaner does alterations and after one evening of struggling to hem a pair of pants that were very slightly flaired at the bottom I quit and took them to the cleaner. It was a miracle, they came back perfectly done. The can even match fancy bottoms like cuffs and things. I'll never hem another pair of pants again. Not when I can pay someone to take care of that chore.
Next up, I think I'll see if they can alter one of my jackets so that the sleeves don't cover my hands anymore.

Old Navy is having an online sale - 20% off if you use your Old Navy, Gap, or Banana Republic credit card to pay for your online order. Cute pencil skirts! Cheap ballet flats!
Anyway, I have a gap card that I applied for years ago (just to get the 15% off my first purchase) and I don't think I've used it since. I dug it out and was ready to pay -- and I kept getting an error message saying that the account did not exist. I thought it might have been closed because of account inactivity, so I called customer service. I was informed that the account had been closed because the cardholder was deceased. Um, no. Okay, I went to an early holiday party last night and I certainly feel like death warmed over this morning, but really, I'm still alive. They're reactivating my account. So, yay, 20% off. And a renewed appreciation for life. Top that, Abercrombie.

NG-at home I'm usually in a long skirt and a tank top. I'm ok with heels, but as much as I like the way hose/stockings look, I really don't like to have them on for more than a few hours.
I think a long flowy skirt is way better than pants.

I got my hair cut this morning, new hair cut
my old hair cut, which I've essentially had for the past 6 years is in my profile. it's very different to how it was and is taking a bit of getting used to, I haven't decided if I'm happy with it yet.
I really didn't like it when I first got back, though it's growing on me a bit, I still think I prefer it how it was before

Me too, NG. And you can forgo panties if you so desire. I've actually learned, as I've said, that being low-waisted means I look better in minis. Does anyone else have this weird thing going on?
I need some new panties. Does anyone have any leads on cute cotton boyshorts? I almost bought a pair yesterday that were camoflage and said "booty camp" on the waistband, but the cotton was scratchy. I also almost bought some cute Eyeshadow ones at Marshall's, but as usual, the line was diabolical.

One of the stylists at work goes to a dermatologist for her skin problems (I'm not sure of the exact problem). She has an appointment soon to meet with their makeup person (the place is a plastic surgery/dermatology/everything related to skin place). She's pretty sure they're going to start her on Bare Minerals because it's best for her skin. I'll let y'all know what she thinks of it.
Does anyone know if Bare Minerals can be sold in salons? It seems to me that it's only in their stores, online and at Sephora, but maybe I'm wrong. I'll have to check their site. If it can be offered in salons, we're probably going to see if the boss will start stocking it (employee discount = at cost!!!).

Ana, I've been buying my undies at Target lately. Hanes makes very comfy, tagless, cotton boyshorts and hipsters. I luuurve the hipsters. They wash up really soft. And you can't beat the price of $6 for 4 pair!

Ana I've got a high waist and long legs, so lots of things end up as minis on me, and minis end-up as belts
I'm obviously biased, because I applied there for the discount, but the VS pink boy shorts are on sale 5 for $25, instead of 3 for $20.
I don't own any, but I've heard good things about the hanes hipsters as well... I should try them

I think I've seen BareMinerals at salons, but I'm not certain.
I don't know if anyone caught my post before so I'll repeat that I like the mineral foundation powder a lot. I don't wear it (or any foundation) every day, but when I do wear it it does not make my skin break out and it provides good coverage. It adds kind of a glowy, dewy look to my skin. My pores clog very easily and I break out if I put almost anything on it, yet BareMinerals causes no problems for me.

Sorry to be a voice of dissent, but I hate boyshorts. They do 1 of 3 things:
-slide down right on my c-section scar (ouch!) -ride way up in the back -slide completely off my booty to the point that if I wear a skirt, I fear they're going to end up on the floor.
I've bought a size bigger, a size smaller, lacy ones, cotton ones, silky ones, etc. & it doesn't matter. They all fit horribly. I like the idea of them but the reality is just awful!

Where can I find a really, really good sexy corset/bustier?
Right now my bra size is a 38 D or DD.
Any good suggestions?

I love the Target boyshorts! I have to check the VS ones, though. I have a c-section scar, too, but they don't shift on me.
I can never find bras in my size- 40B. I like the water ones at Fredericks but they don't last long.
I'm also an ex-Catholic schoolgirl- I got kicked out! I love kilts and kneesocks, anyone know where I can find a good black kilt? I have a hot date this weekend...

My friends and I have concurred that butt size and shape are the deciding factors in how comfortable a given style of undies is. For example, the size and shape of my butt make French thongs (the kind that are fairly wide in the back) the most comfortable and bikini style or briefs the least comfortable. I find boyshorts comfy to sleep in but not as good under clothes.

I've developed bursitis in my right shoulder (middle age is such a joy), and my bra strap gets to be very painful by the end of the day. I'm considering sports bras, but I'm rather large-busted, so I need one that has actual cups, not just a shelf of fabric. I don't need or want firm compression, since this is for everyday wear, and I don't really want to have a uniboob at the office. Plus firm compression would probably hurt my shoulder, too. Anybody have any recommendations?

I've had great luck with the hipsters, but the boyshorts give me a little trouble too. I think it's just due to me being gifted in the thigh department.
The legs of the shorts tend to ride up and turn into briefs, but thankfully it doesn't really affect the comfort. I suspect other people may have more luck with them as they might stay in place on thinner thighs. I do still like to wear the boyshorts under a skirt though.
But you can't beat the hipsters...Ooh I love them!

Lainie- would a racerback bra help? What size are you, anyway? I would use them, but I have shoulders that wouldn't be happy. What size are you? I could point out some bras I think would be good.

Ana, a wide strap might help -- that's why I was thinking sports bras. The strap isn't digging -- it was perfectly comfortable until the bursitis flared up. I just need to spread the weight of my boobs across a wider surface. I used to have some bras with gel in the strap -- that might work, too.
Mickey, I wear a 40D. I think a racerback would still bother my shoulder. At least with the regular straps I can slide the strap off my shoulder when it hurts too much.*
*Yes, that's right, I'm deliberately pushing my bra strap off my shoulder, after 30+ years of trying to keep it up there. Grrr.

Lainie, one solution is to wear a longer line bra, so that your ribs support you more than your shoulder and collarbone. Another thing you can do is use a strap cushion.

Thanks.... bthyb, this might be a dumb question, but I'm going to ask it anyway: Where would I get a corset made?
I mean, I would imagine not just to a seamstress like you would to have a dress or something made?

Yeah, we carry Jane Iredale already (we're a high-end salon) -- it's what our makeup artists use. We were just thinking that if Bare Minerals was available, we'd already have the name recognition built-in (more people are familiar with the Bare Minerals name than with JI). I think we'd carry both in that case. It's the same reason why we're looking to carry Jessica Simpson's new line of clip-on hair extensions in addition to the ones carried by our current supplier for "permanent" extensions (Great Lengths).
Whic reminds me. We have yet to receive our information and pricing from both. Time for some more phone calls tomorrow, I think -- if anyone's in the day before Turkey Day!

Any suggestions for really soft lips? This winter weather is doing a number on my lips, making them all dry. I've tried using different store bought lip balms, but nothing seems to really make my lips soft, just greasy. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I can't stand it when my lips get chapped - especially when I play clarinet.
I deal with chapped lips by lightly brushing my lips when I brush my teeth to get rid of the dead skin. I also keep chapstick in my purse and just about every room of my house. I always wear it, even under lipstick. It does feel greasy sometimes, but it beats cracked and bleeding lips.

For me chapstick with shea or cocoa butter is the best. It is kind of greasy though.
Carmex and Chapstick brands are in my opinion worse tha useless.
Frogpond's suggestion of exfoliating your lips is excellent- in the end lip balm is a barrier more than a moisturizer, so it can only do so much to repair your lips. Scrubbing off the dead skin and then protecting the soft skin underneath is the way to go IMHO.

Lizzy, exfoliating might help, too. Flaky skin can keep skin from staying hydrated. Try scrubbing them gently with a washcloth, or with a toothbrush even. I use baking soda on my face and it's safe to eat, but it doesn't taste good. You can try that.
Then make sure there's some moisture there before you apply something emollient.

Drink lots of water. Dehydration can contribute to chapped lips.

I'm trying the exfoliating trick and bought a lip balm that has shea and cocoa butter in it today, blistex gentle sense...it's really nice. No scent or flavor to it, just a nice, smooth balm. Thanks for all the suggesgtions.
Ana, how do you use the baking soda? Just kmix it into a paste? And then you just use it as a facial scrub? I'm curious.

I'm curious about that as well. I need a new way to exfoliate without rubbing my face with a washcloth (which I know is bad) now that it's winter.
