Oh, I just thought of another reason we may want to get the ball rolling on whether we would want to do it. Well, multiple reasons.
I just remembered I'll have a summer class (I'd find out the summer semester I'd have to attend first). Also, in regards to the possibility of staying at one of the value resorts...summer is Brazilian tour group season! And a lot of them tend to stay in those resorts.
Also, the sooner we book things, the sooner we'd be able to start budgeting for it!
Anyone want to start a committee with me (Tootsie)?

This would be too complicated and expensive for me to take part. If anyone wants to go to Alcatraz I'm in.

I don't know if I'd be financially able to go but this is the closest Snopester gathering suggestion to me I've seen, and I'd dearly love to attend one! Keep us posted.

McDonough is on the southeast side of Atlanta, kind of in between Stockbridge and Conyers. About 10 years ago it mostly consisted of trees, cow pastures and gravel roads but then Henry County became one of the fastest growing counties in the US and now looks like the rest of the Atlanta suburbs (though I still have some dirt roads and trees in my area).

Just food for thought, but I think people need to think about what they want out of a snopester gathering and what they want out of a trip to WDW (or similar theme park). If you want to spend some quality time getting to know snopesters in person and share stories, a noisy, crowded theme park at which everyone will want to do different things may not be the best venue. Likewise, if you're looking to fully enjoy a trip to a theme park because you've never been or haven't been in a long time, you may not get the most out of it if you're trying to balance being social with a group new/old friends.

I am from Bainbridge. Georgia's first Inland port and where Flint River starts. Just in case you have no clue where it is. Southwest. About 45mins to both Dothan AL. and Tallahassee FL. Yeah way down there.

My first trip to WDW was part of a group of about 25 people who were going to Orlando for another event (Magicon), and decided to stay after for a tour. Our leader was (pardon the expression) anal-retentive when it came to planning every detail ahead of time, but it worked out well for most of us, and we saved money and time by being part of a group.
If we're forming a committee, sure, I'll be on it. No guarantee I'll be able to go...

That is an excellent point. I think a large international snopesters "conference" is a great idea, but I don't think that WDW is necessarily the best place for it. I don't mean to take anything away from Mickey's idea - it's a good idea.

Especially since people have mentioned bringing kids. Yes, the child will love the park. But is the child going to enjoy mommy or daddy wanting to socialize with a bunch of adult strangers? That's just not fun. And is mommy or daddy going to be torn between trying to make sure the family has the best park experience possible while also trying to have a good time with both the child and other snopesters? That's probably not that fun either.
Kids or not, if I'm paying a couple hundred dollars for a park pass and several hundred or even a couple thousand for airfare, I'm going to be there to squeeze every ounce of fun out of the park with my family. I wouldn't object at all to meeting area snopesters for dinner or drinks, but not at the expense of the trip to the park. When I have met snopesters for just dinner, it always felt like we never had quite enough time together and that was without being distracted by tourist stuff.
I do think the conference part is a great idea so I'm not putting down that part of the Mickeys' idea, but I'm not convinced somewhere like Disneyworld will do justice to either aspect.

ETA: From wikipedia: Cedar Point is a 364 acre (1.5 kmē) amusement park located in Sandusky, Ohio, USA on a narrow peninsula jutting into Lake Erie. It is the world's largest amusement park (by ride count) with 68 rides including 16 rollercoasters and has the world's second tallest and second fastest roller coaster, Top Thrill Dragster. The park also has a mile-long white sand beach, two water parks (Soak City and Castaway Bay), a marina, several hotels, and a "Challenge Park" featuring attractions such as go-karts and miniature golf. Known as "America's Roller Coast", Cedar Point has been voted "Best Amusement Park in the World" by Amusement Today for the past nine years.

Theoretically I'm in. It all depends on the time, though. I can barely afford the airfare twice a year; so if it's at a time when I'm home, no can do.
I like the idea, though! (I wouldn't even mind Disney too much, even though I'm not particularly fond of it and in my mind it'll be permanently linked with "overcrowded and expensive".)

i've no idea where I'll be next summer let alone November...
FrogPond - I've seen the signs for McDonough when I've driven down to Atlanta on 85. I'm in Duluth which is north of Atlanta...I think somebody on one of my Yahoo Lists is in McDonough...
WDW ... been years since I've been there..Only time I'd go is with family. And dern my sister & her family goes more than I do...they were just down there for my nephew's first time (he's 3 1/2).

This is a good point. Especially if kids are involved. Sorry, ya'll but if I am going to spend the time and, especially money, to go to WDW, I am not going to be happy, as much as I like kids, spending all my time doing kid stuff.
Another snopester and I have been discussing Las Vegas as the perfect place for a snopes meet. There are cheap flights from everywhere to Vegas!

In fact, there's a new thread about locations and Vegas seems to be a favorite. I'll echo the cheap flights bit. I looked up flights from Edmonton to Vegas out of curiosity and I was stunned at how cheap they were! I can't even fly to Toronto for so little, and it's nearly as much to fly to Vancouver.

I would be up for a Las Vegas meet. Especially since I can usually get a free room. Well, free if you don't count the money I blow at the craps table.

I've never been to Vegas, and it's possible (though still not likely) that I would be able to swing a few days in Vegas more easily than a few days in WDW.
