My step-mom just sent me this one. And she wonders why I look at her funny sometimes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
VERY INTERESTING-
1.The Garden of Eden was in Iraq.
2. Mesopotamia, which is now Iraq, was the cradle of civilization!
3. Noah built the ark in Iraq.
4. The Tower of Babel was in Iraq
5. Abraham was from Ur, which is in Southern Iraq!
6. Isaac's wife Rebekah is from Nahor, which is in Iraq!
7. Jacob met Rachel in Iraq.
8. Jonah preached in Nineveh - which is in Iraq.
9. Assyria, which is in Iraq, conquered the ten tribes of Israel.
10. Amos cried out in Iraq!
11. Babylon, which is in Iraq, destroyed Jerusalem.
12. Daniel was! In the lion's den in Iraq!
13. The three Hebrew children were in the fire in Iraq (Jesus had been in Iraq also as the fourth person in the Fiery furnace!)
14. Belshazzar, the King of Babylon saw the "writing on the wall" in Iraq.
15. Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, carried the Jews captive into Iraq.
16. Ezekiel preached in Iraq.
17. The wise men were from Iraq
18. Peter preached in Iraq.
19. The "Empire of Man" described in Revelation is called Babylon, which was a city in Iraq!
And you have probably seen this one. Israel is the nation most often mentioned in the Bible. But do you know which nation is second? It is Iraq! However, that is not the name that is used in the Bible The names used in the Bible are Babylon, Land of Shinar, and Mesopotamia . The word Mesopotamia means between the two rivers, more exactly between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers . The name Iraq, means country with deep roots.
Indeed Iraq is a country with deep roots and is a very significant country in the Bible.
No other nation, except Israel, has more history and prophecy associated it than Iraq.
And also, This is something to think about!
Since America is typically represented by an eagle. Saddam should have read up on his Muslim passages...
The following verse is from the Koran,
(the Islamic Bible)
Koran (9:11 ) - For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah;
And there was peace.
(Note the verse number!) Hmmmmmmm?!
I BETTER NOT HEAR OF ANYONE BREAKING THIS ONE OR SEE DELETED This is a ribbon for soldiers fighting in Iraq. Pass it on to everyone and pray. Something good will happen to you tonight at 11:11 PM. This is not a joke! Someone will either call you or will talk to you online and say that they love you. Do not break this chain. Send this to 13 people in the next 15 minutes. Go.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I imagine that some of this is probably true, but the Koran passage reeks of an invention and the little addendum at the end makes it... a glurge. (my apologies, however, if I put this in the wrong place).

Semi-chow This doesn't address all of the points made in the lovely glurge above, but it does address the Quran verse.

Another woman failed to send this on, and her whites were NOT AS WHITE and there was a DISGUSTING WAXY BUILDUP on her linoleum.

So what everyone is saying is that my stepmother managed to send me a glurge that contained elements from not one but three other nasty glurges? Nice.

Yet, one should be cautious :

- Julius C. of Rome, Italy, broke the chain : three days later, he was stabbed to death by a group of politicians, including his adoptive son.

- Abraham L. of Washington DC did not forward the message. Two weeks later, he was shot while attending a theater play.

- J. son of Joseph from Nazareth, Israel, deleted the mail. Soon after he was nailed on a cross.

SO, MARK MY WORDS . DON'T BREAK TEH CHAIN !!111!ELEVEN!! [Big Grin]

PS : the last thing the troops need is the kind of religious crap that makes the present war look like some delirious crusade. What they need is some clever diplomatic solution to bring them home ASAP. And luck, of course.

To the person who found those facts interesting:

The only nations that will be listed in a history book are the ones the nation that wrote it had contact with! You'll find Egypt listed in it a lot, too, but NOT Peru or Australia.

I honestly don't understand the point of this. Iraq, a country in the middle east is in the Bible a lot. Wow. I don't know if it's second only to Israel, but assuming it is, so what?

Interestingly, the pastor in my church used the story of Jonah in Nineveh in a strongly anti-war sermon. Here's part of what she said:

quote:
Jonah did not want to go to Nineveh. In fact, it would have been just perfect for Jonah if the Ninevites that he tried to run away from were all struck down dead by God. It would have been just fine with Jonah if God would have wreaked vengeance on those tormenters of Israel, for they had treated Jonah’s people cruelly. The Ninevites were so barbaric that today we would have called them “terrorists” or perhaps used words like “Axis of Evil.” So, no, Jonah did not want to go to Nineveh and tell them to repent, because what if they repented and God forgave them? He did not want them forgiven. He wanted payback.
Obvious analogies anyone?

Given the fake Koran verse, I'm assuming the writer of this piece is of the pro-war religious right persuasion, but I don't understand how Iraq being in the Bible is in any way relevant to the current situation.

Thank you Maple Leaf. [Smile]

As for the glurge itself, it's unfortunately not as pointless as it seems to be. In fact, it spreads two extremely stupid and dangerous messages :

1. Iraq is cited in the Bible, so it's OK for Christians to invade, because in some way it belongs to Christianity(TM).

2. The final battle between Good an Evil(TM) depicted in the book of Revelations is supposed to take place in that region. So the present "War on Terror (TM)" *must* be that very struggle. The Days are Near, including the Rapture (TM), the Second Coming (TM) and Judgment Day(TM). Let's fight on, let's set the entire Middle-East ablaze and eventually Jeeeeezus(TM)will return. Halleluiah.

All in all, the usual evangelical apocalyptic claptrap, but that can lead the gullible into believing the present war is God's work.

I'm not really well-versed in the Bible, but from what I know, numbers 1, 2, 3, 5 and 17 seem to tell me that Iraq is a good place (garden of eden, cradle of civilisation, home of the only people to be saved from the flood, the father of the Israel tribes and of the wise men coming to praise the newborn savior). On the other hand, numbers 4, 9, 11, 14, 15, and 19 tell me that Iraq is a bad place (whore of Babylon, tower of Babel, attacking the children of Israel, to be destroyed in Revelation).

So what is that supposed to tell me in general, especially with adding a fake koran verse and threatening me with bad things if I don't pass it on and creepy stalkers calling me at night if I do?

[9.11] But if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, they are your brethren in faith; and We make the communications clear for a people who know.

I believe that to be 9.11 from the koran. maybe the glurger just took some artistic lisence? a search of an online koran yielded no "fearsome eagle" results either.

its great how this starts off 'religious significance of iraq', then decends a bit into 'americas gonna kick yo ass!' and finally ends with 'send it on or you're dead'.
