Comment: In your article You wrote:

"This flag is 6.65 acres and is the first floral flag to be planted with 5
pointed stars,"

There is 50 pointed stars in the flag not 5. There wasnt even only five
when Colombus got here there was 13. There was never just 5, I think you
need to go back to school.

Ah, I recall the picture now. When Columbus arrived in the New World, the native population greeted him carrying a flag with 13 stars on it.

Yes, we must all go back to school, mustn't we? The things we've missed....

Oh my goodness. What a moron. See, now this would be funny if they had intended it. Well, it's exactly the sort of joke I would make.

Maybe a hyphen would clear things up (5-pointed stars) Or a parenthetical comment (that's stars with 5 points)

Or maybe we can just laugh at our history buff here. [Smile]

I think I remember seeing on the history channel or something that the American flag was actually supposed to have six-pointed stars, but Betsy Ross made them with five points because they were easier to cut out.

But, of course, Christopher Columbus was long gone by then.

The whole Betsy Ross legend is unsupported by historical evidence but it is true that you can make a 5-pointed star with a single snip if you fold the fabric a certain way.

Just in case anyone is wondering, the deal with 5 points is that the first flower flags, in WWII, had square "stars"

I keep meaning to scan the picture of the mural and post it to the Photo gallery forum.

Comment: I was talking to a "good old boy" a few days ago, who was paving
our street. Taking a break and standing beneath my black walnut tree, he
told this story:

"I used to go fishing with black walnuts. Put a big batch of 'em in a
burlap bag and crunch 'em to bits. Then go to a pond and with a long rope
drag the walnut bag from one end to the other. Follow the bag in a boat.
In a few minutes fish will float to the top of the water 'cause the
walnuts have used up all the oxygen in the pond. Just net the fish and
put 'em in the boat. But don't wait too long, 'cause they will soon sink
to the bottom."

It was a great fish story, but is there any truth to it?

baseball game...my heart went out to that little boy and then to see how
all of the others let him score that winning run....what a better place
this world would be if everyone would help others the way they did him...
also I especially liked the one where President and Mrs. Bush visited the
hospital and how President Bush held his salute... what a wonderful man
President Bush is.. makes me proud to be a Republican... God Bless

Re: The Black Walnut stories

My cousins and I picked a few bucketfuls of black walnuts while I was visiting them in Kentucky. We actually had to run the fruits over in their car to break the husks (think like coconuts here, with a pulpy outer husk, then the hard "stone" inside that has the fruit) and then pick up the nuts (all unbroken, of course) from the mess. The stain on my fingers went away after a day or two, but if I remember correctly they still have a stain on their driveway. Judging by the smell and the stains, I'm not surprised that it's toxic.

Comment: Recently I watched a TV documentary which made a pretty bold claim about
the founder of Ford, Henry Ford, who had an evil twim brother names
Mortimor Ford who placed an item in the car called the 'Hydrosilator'
which had no function at all, except for the make the cars evil and one
day turn on their owner. Apparantly even to this day, car companies still
put this part in, despite not knowing what it does.

Before you ask, yes, this 'documentary' was made by Fox, and is titled
'When Cars Attack'. They claim it was the hydrosilators fault that one
car supposedly 'rejected' its air intake manifold and rolled off a bridge.

I know this Urban legend sounds unmistakably false, I think a humouress
investigation into this would be funny.

Then after that you could work on the Urban Legend that Fox News isn't a
news network.

Comment: If the photo is fake how did the helicopter photo get turned
around? In the photo with the man and the shark the helicopter is flying
to the right and the man is on the right side or outside of the ladder if
you will. In the photo without the shark the helicopter is flying to the
left and the man is on the left side of the ladder? The mountain has
moved from left to right as well. Unless someone completely turned this
photo around, it appears to be two separate photos.

Comment: I heard a legend that the actors that played the cowardly lion and the tin
man were gay. This was not uncommon among actors in those days but they
started an affair. Evidence of a possible affair can be seen throughout
the movie. The most obvious hint was, as the legend goes, is when the
scarecrow, tin man, and lion, are following toto up the side of a rocky
mountain. The tin man is holding the lion's tail. The two pause and the
tail of the lion looks like a huge phallus coming from the tin man. The
tin man wiggles his hips and begins to chuckle as the scene is immediately
cut. I heard the directors had to cut because the two started dying of
uncontrollable laughter at their own private joke. Is this true?
