Is it just me ... or does it seem as if there are primitive societies out there (some hitherto unknown to us supposedly "civilised" types) whose approach to sexuality still happens to be rather frank, direct and has yet to be untainted by suspicion of pornography?
Especially such where:
deliberate nudity is taken for granted;
defloration or other sexual-introduction rituals are considered as much a part of "coming of age" as reaching adulthood;
sexual matters are frequently discussed openly; and
explaining sex to children is not quite of the "birds-and-bees" school, even to the point of freely tolerating sexual "play."
Very interesting tribal views about sex and gender. Among the Etoro tribe, boys do not become men until they have orally ingested the semen of their tribal elders. Homosexuality (among men) is viewed as the norm, and heterosexual sex is discouraged unless for reproduction. That's straight from my anthropology textbook by Conrad Kottak, which has a fascinating chapter about world views about sex and gender.
