Has anyone here ever seen a version of Goonies that shows them fighting the octopus? Every version I've ever seen, including the DVD version, has simply made mention of the octopus when the kids are reunited with their parents at the end. I've heard that it may have been a theater-only type thing, but why take it out?

I have seen that version a long, long time ago, and it was when it was on TV on time, so it can't be a theatre only type thing.

I would also like to say that The Goonies is one of the best movies of all time.

That scene was left on editing room floor. My understanding is that it can be found on the DVD, but was not in the theaters or on the VHS version.

It - and several other scenes - were reinserted for a tv edit. I read the book version as a kid, and that included the octopus fight, so when I came across it - I believe on TBS - one day I was pretty dang excited. Now I wish I'd taped it.

and it's 1 - 2 - 3, what are we fighting for? don't ask me, I don't give a damn

If you ever catch "The Goonies" playing on The Disney Channel, you might see the octopus scene. I caught it on Disney once maybe ten years ago. Due to the fact that they edited it heavily to make it more family appropriate (changing "oh god" to "oh gosh" etc.) they reinserted the octopus scene to make up for some of the lost length.

**OCTOPUS SPOILERS! DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IN THE SCENE!**

What happens is after they fall from the waterfalls into the cavern where the pirate ship is, they're wading towards the ship when Stef (Martha Plimpton) suddenly feels something brush against her rear. She immediately accuses Mouth (Corey Feldman) of touching her but it turns out it's a giant octopus who's rubbing it's tentacles up against her. I can't remember exactly what they end up doing to get away from the octopus, but I'm pretty sure it had something to do with Data and one of his inventions.

Pretty dumb of whoever edited the film to remove that scene but leave in Data referring to "The octopus being very scary" when they're rescued. [Razz]

If I remember correctly, I think they "scare" the octopus away when one of the Goonies, either Mouth or Data, takes their walkman and "feeds" it to the octopus. Don't remember if it was exactly like that, but something close.

Another scene they cut out was when Mikey was at the local "corner store" and had the map with him. He ran into Troy and Troy tried to take the map and set it on fire.

I bought a Goonies storybook from the library, and it has a scene where the kids are covered in leeches, which Data gets rid of by eletrocuting them. The book has pictures from the movie (but not of this), so I don't know if this is another lost scene or something left in from an early script. It also tells the Goonies' full names.

I remember seeing the film intact with the Octopus scene and the clip at the general store with the burned map on television many years ago.
