I could also have titled this: "Why I didn't believe at first that Brandon Lee was dead.", but I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's start with the facts first:
Before his death, Bruce Lee worked on a movie called Game of Death, featuring his good friend Kareem Abdul Jabbar. He died, leaving that movie unfinished, and among the rumours surrounding his alleged "mysterious death", there was one saying that the title of this movie could have been the cause of his death. Five years later, that movie was "finished" by Robert Clouse (and what a mess that was!), with new scenes featuring Colleen Camp, Dean Jaegger and Gig Young. During the filming, he met and married his last wife, Kim Schmidt. Game of Death was to be his last movie, because three weeks after their wedding, he killed his wife, and then commited suicide, leaving no note. But that's not all. A scene in that movie involved an attempted murder against an actor/martial artist (supposedly the character Bruce Lee and his double were playing) who had run afoul of racketeers. The murder occured during a shooting where the lead character was supposed to be shot, the murderer swapping real bullets for the blanks that were used. Now, when I learned that Brandon Lee had been killed during the filming of The Crow because a real bullet had been fired instead of a blank, I was skeptical about the news, especially since I've learned of it on april 1st. That coincidence was a bit too much to swallow. Alas, that was the truth, which gives this scene an air of ominous premonition, don't you think so? http://us.imdb.com/Title?0077594 for more information.

You were right to be skeptical on this point. What killed Brandon Lee was not a "real bullet" but an empty cartidge accidentally propelled by a blank charge. This according to the IMDb entry for The Crow.
