Supposedly, this is a video of some people who get revenge on some "hillbillies" harrassing them in their truck.
Does it look acted out to anyone else?

Revenge video

ETA: Some NSFW language, questionable site...

It looks very acted out. Not very well I might add either. I have seen way better stuff lately that can fool you on first viewing. This seems fake from the get go.

I have known plenty of people who dressed like said "hillbillies." I've known guys who dressed like this and carried a bat in the back of their pickup and would have done something as obnoxious and stupid as this. So that stuff isn't much of a stretch. The dialogue seems very contrived, though.

It would have been more amusing if the end credits had said it was a water gun.

I don't think it's a big stretch either. While the beginning dialog is questionable, they are playing to the camrea afterall- act or not. the other guy's dialog seems pretty genuine- not overacted as I'd expect if it were fake.

And the hillybilly stuff is limited to the guy's suspenders and the other guy's shorts which aren't all that out of the ordinary. If it was all acted out I would have expected the hillbilly angle to have been played up to the hilt- we actually see very little of them (and even less of the girl).

Wouldn't be surprised to see it was acted out, but IMO it's not such an incredibly bad fake if it's indeed that.

Eh.. I suppose I could go either way, however considering the 'hillbillies' are dressed like they are just off theh set of heehaw, they have very nicly trimmed hair.

Granted the whole anecdote/data thing but oftentimes when I see people dressed in that manor they seldom have neatly groomed recently cut hair styles, but again that dosn't rule it out.

This is fake:

quoted from here from the guy driving the Tundra:

quote:
I think this is amazing, I am the Tundra driver in the video, and when we made this video we had no idea there would be such a positive reception. First, I'd like to let the cat out of the bag....YES ITS A FAKE. Totally staged, not scripted, off the cuff, and the crappy parts were deleted. Second, Hicks drive Imports. Third, Yes it was filmed in Canada. I'd like to thank everybody for their comments, it really made making the film worthwhile, but to reiterate, it definitely was a fake. If you have any further interest, you can look at wittkopp.net, and thanks again.
And on wittkopp.net:
quote:
The most popular video of ours is the BMW car chase (aka Hicks vs. Yuppies). It seems to have made its way around the net...

This video was created one afternoon by four friends with nothing better to do. We weren't trying to accomplish anything except to make a home movie that might make people laugh. We wanted to create a short video that surprised the audience at the end.

We had no idea that it would spark numerous debates about its authenticity. Quite a few people have weighed in with their opinion, some believing that it was completely fake, while others made interesting points regarding why they felt that it was real.

We loved reading all the comments, bad, good, and ugly. I can tell you that we did everything in one take, completely unscripted, with about ten minutes of planning. Alot is cut, especially near the end because we were laughing!

Is there any more to the wittkopp.net site? All I see is a reference to the video- not exactly proof that it's anything other than someone claiming that they made it.

Don't know why anyone would do that unless they did indeed make the video. Perhaps they'll post the uncut version or something. Until then I could still go either way.

The acting's terrible, specifically there is no stress in the voices of any of the actors during the altercation. The guy in the BMW would have been nervous even if he did have the upper hand, but there was nothing in his voice to indicate this.

You know, it seems like the bmw driver and the original camera guy were related, brothers perhaps. Also, if he's in the city and knows he's being followed, he doesn't know if the ones following him also have a gun, so why would he go out in the woods where anything could happen. The answer as to why they went into the woods: They can practice their acting skills without being arrested for pulling out a gun in front of everyone out in the city. My guess and opinion.. staged!
Then you have the fact that the bmw driver shows his face and what type of car.. not too difficult to find him and arrest him for pulling a gun and robbing them.

I'd say it sounds fake, it actually reminded me of something on The Trailer Park Boys.

Edited to fix spelling

Not necessarily. Some people are very cool in confrontations.

After reading a few good points above though I'd go with staged as well.

I personally think northern Texans sound like the "accentless" people of the midwest.

On intitial viewing, I thought the guy in the BMW would reveal himself to be an undercover cop, working the narcotics angle. Hence the calm manner, and gun. But, sounds like staged after all..
