I tend to lose more than win at the Search Feature game, so chow away if need be...

I just heard this one: Jack in the Box uses anchovy paste rather than beef. I'm fairly sure that would be twice as expensive with the initial cost of the anchovies, plus the additional cost associated with making them resemble beef.

ETA, not to mention, from the website:

"Beef Regular Taco or Beef Monster Taco® Filling Ingredients: Beef, Water, Textured Vegetable Protein (Soy Flour, Caramel Color), Soy Grits, Seasoning [Chili Powder (Chili Peppers, Spices, Salt, Garlic Powder), Wheat Flour, Taco Mix (Chili Pepper, Garlic, Salt, Spices, Monosodium Glutamate, Dextrose, Onion), Imitation Beef Extract (Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Hydrolyzed Soy, Wheat and Corn Protein, Monosodium Glutamate, Dextrose, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Disodium Guanylate, Disodium Inosinate), Silicon Dioxide (added to prevent caking)], Salt, Tomato Paste, Worcestershire Sauce (Distilled Vinegar, Molasses, Corn Syrup, Water, Salt, Caramel Color, Garlic Powder, Sugar, Spices, Tamarind, Natural Flavor, Sulfiting Agent). Tortilla Ingredients: Ground Corn, Water, Lime. Contains Soy, Wheat"

Their ingredient list can be found here, it lists the ingredients of their hamburger patty as beef & salt.

Anchovies have such a strong (ie disgusting) taste that IMO it would be hard to disguise it as "beef".

Anchovies are an ingredient in Worcestershire Sauce. Maybe that's what they are referring to?

ETA: Fixed my bad spelling

ETA2: This may not be true of all Worcestershire Sauce. I didn't see that they listed the ingredients of their Worcestershire Sauce. On my personal bottle of Lea and Perrin's, anchovies are listed as an ingredient, right between high fructose corn syrup and water.

Aplologies, I think I must have replied while you were adding your ingredient ETA.
