New Jersey's Supreme Court mandates that the legislature adopt either same-sex marriage or civil unions. Three dissenting justices say civil unions aren't good enough.

NJ already had a fairly strong Domestic Partnership statute, IIRC, but the Court said it wasn't good enough.
