Comment: There is a rumor out that the Iraq War ended after only 3 days
and the troops there do not get combat pay. Also, if wounded, care is
only provided for one year. Please clarify.

Hmm...

So I guess that extra money on my LES every month is a glitch...

FWIW, it's not called "combat pay," it's "hostile fire/imminent danger pay." So technically, I guess the OP is true; however, the reason that no one gets combat pay is that it doesn't exist.

It's no rumor, it was actually true for the first couple months of the war. Bush would not give imminent danger pay because it gave the impression the war would not end in "weeks, not months". After a few months the absurdity compelled him to finally add the I.D. pay.

Do you have any sort of evidence of that?

I remember that in 2003 the Bush admin tried to cut the combat pay because they figured "mission accomplished" and it was costing them too much. As I recall, all hell broke loose and that idea was pretty quickly scrapped.

edit: article about it -- how weird, and sad, to read the news as it was written then. So very very far from mission accomplished after all [Frown] .

Now *that* I do remember. Why Rummy didn't get el booto then, I'll never know.

No, no, no...
Imminent Danger pay and Family Separation Allowance are merely reverting to their old values. They are not being cut completely.
